Flyer Profile: The Counterlife
Live, Fayetteville’s the Counterlife sound like what a heart attack should sound like. They sound urgent, violent. They explode.
They are relentless, and one of the hardest working bands in town. They are also some of the biggest proponents of the Fayetteville music scene.
Local chicks call them the horniest band in town, and they will also rock your face off.
You can hear what the Counterlife sounds like for yourself by clicking below, or by visiting their myspace page. We got in touch with singer Roger Barrett through their myspace page, and he was kind enough to answer the following questions.
FF: What are you listening to lately?
TCL: Afghan Whigs, Pelican, Russian Circles, Bruce Springsteen “Magic”, Radiohead “in rainbows”, Suga City,
etc.
FF: Who is (are) the best band(s) in Fayetteville right now?
TCL: Memphis Pencils and The Radio Sky are our favorite local bands, both have their own style and both dress really well.
FF: What are your top 3 albums of 2007?
TCL: too tough to call…. Twilight Singers were one of them.
FF: What’s the best venue in Fayetteville?
TCL: The New Deli house right now, it always changes. It was The Green Lightbulb.
FF. How do you perceive the “scene” in Fayetteville?
TCL. I don’t know, we’re too old and jaded to make that call. We’ll go out on a limb and say it’s “OK”.
FF. What’s your position on illegal downloading?
TCL: I think it’s up to the bands to decide how they want their music downloaded.
Who is the best actor that ever lived?
TCL: Emilio Estevez – period.
That was a trick question Roger. Good thing you got it right.

I dunno.. when I think of the Counterlife, I usually think about premature ejaculation and consoling lies.
Props to those boys– nobody promotes shows in this town like Roger Barrett, who has promoted Dino House shows before I even got to it. We’d let you play our living room, but that would probably be our last show.
