Dickson Street Music Festival Confirmed
The lineup for the Dickson Street Music Festival (and confirmation that this thing actually exists) was announced at a press conference earlier today and as it turns out, the rumors are indeed true.
Sonic Youth, Shooter Jennings and a handful of bands that you might’ve thought were retired (and probably should be) are set to perform April 25-26 at the self-proclaimed “Eco-Friendly Event”.
Ticket information and a few more details can be found at the Majestic Concerts website along with a couple of working links to band bios. Currently, the band bios links for Charlie Daniels, 38 Special and Little Feat are non-functional but if you really want to know more about them, just ask someone who’s at least 20 years older than you.
Depending on the weather, you can see all of this at either the Walton Arts Center parking lot or the Tyson Track Center. Tickets will set you back $30/day or $50 for both days. Snapple is listed as a sponsor so expect plenty of Antioxidant Orange Starfruit Water and Peach Pomegranate Red Tea to be on hand.
We can already hear the money exchanging hands across town from the bets you’ve been making over whether or not the real Sonic Youth was actually going to play in Fayetteville, Arkansas.

Sonic Youth is a sore thumb here, a sore thumb that I would gratefully suck on! They need to add some more bands that would be similarly appealing. My index finger would make a tasty New Pornographers, my pinky a delicious Paper Chase, a Dirty Projectors toe. I’ll stop before I completely cannibalize myself.

Okay, I’m not 50, I’m 34 – and a HUUUUUUUUUUUGE Shooter fan!! I literally screamed when I heard he was coming back! I’ve seen him four times over the past year and a half, and Shooter ALWAYS puts on one hell of a show. (Not to mention, he’s a brilliant musician.) While I agree that the shows at the AMP are lame and way overpriced, I would hope that people would be a little more open-minded than to place unfair judgements and stereotypes on the entire crowd (of the Music Festival) just because they don’t listen to a certain type of music or know who someone is. Besides, I PROMISE that if you go see Shooter, you’ll be a fan within 2 seconds of the first song. As far as the cost of the whole event – I agree… that’s absurd. But hey – gotta pay for Fayetteville to keep pushing everyone to go up north somehow, huh? ;)

The bio copy for SY on that page makes it clear they have no idea what they’re doing. That should be awesome. Enjoy it doods.

I’m very excited about this! What with the Foo Fighters and Yo Yo Ma next week and Sonic Youth coming up, Fayetteville is the place to be! I really appreciate the organizers bringing this talent to town.

I’ll pass on the Friday lineup, but Saturday should be worth the price. Michael Franti & Spearhead put on a great show. Anyone who saw their first Fayetteville show at George’s last year can vouch. It was high energy and the crowd had a terrific vibe. They swore to make their way back and it looks like they are making good on that promise. Throw in Sonic Youth and you’ve got a winner in my book. Yeah, they’ve been around a while, but their last album (Rather Ripped, ‘06) was still really good.

does anyone know if you have to pay $30 for both nights? is there a way to pay $15 for one night?

I saw the flyer to this and absolutely could not believe it. I am seriously considering driving up from Lubbock, Texas just to make sure that this is not a joke and you ACTUALLY got Sonic Youth to play this…

You noticed the vibe there at George’s for Spearhead’s show too…sweet! That was one of if not the best shows Ive ever been to. As for worth it or not….$30 is paltry in this day and age. I recently was in Idaho/Wyoming and my girly and I drove for close to 5 hours one way to go see Michael Franti in Sun Valley.

and the ticket cost for one day of that Mountain Jam Festival was $60

You guys can rip on the bands playing all you want…Truth is, Fayetteville is a small market and it’s hard to get larger acts into the area. Even if it is bands that somebody who reads this particularly doesn’t listen to, that doesn’t mean the person next to you isn’t stoked!
I for one will be there to see Shooter Jennings, 38 Special, and Sonic Youth. Im not old, either. This show is good for Fayetteville. Music is a matter of opinion, you can’t make everyone happy. The best thing to do is to be glad ANYONE is coming to NW Arkansas. If you don’t like the lineup, not going is always an option…I’m just saying…

Well said, Jarsh. I think the FF’s official position on the festival could be overall summed up as ” **** yes.” Quit tripping, ya’ll.

Personally, I love Dad bands. I’m amped about the festival.

I saw Michael Franti & Spearhead last year at Georges and i have to say it was by far the best show ever. Great venue. Total high energy. Definite crowd pleasers. MF & SH is the main reason I’m driving 3 hours to the festival!
