Razorback Basketball: In or Out?

February 25, 2008 3:29 pm · By Dustin · 5 Comments

Ok, so the Arkansas Basketball team is currently 18-8 overall, with a 7-5 record in conference play. They have games left at Alabama, at Ole Miss, and at home against Vanderbilt and Auburn.

So the question is this; does Arkansas make the NCAA tournament or not? I mean, there’s always the chance that the Razorbacks go all 2000 and surprise everyone and win an automatic bid by winning the SEC tournament, but I’m not holding my breath on that one. Especially considering 2000 was the first and only SEC Tournament championship Arkansas has ever had.

If the season ended today, both collegehoops.net and ESPN have the Razorbacks in as either an 8 or a 9 seed and one of the last ones into the tournament. But the season does not end today. There are four games left, plus an SEC tournament left for the Razorbacks to make their case. And there is all kinds of evidence that says that how you finish determines to a large degree whether or not a team is “dancing” or “sitting at home eating nacho’s on the couch filling out brackets with the rest of us.”

So, what does Fayetteville think? I’ll go first.

Arkansas will finish the year 2-2, winning the two home games, and losing the road games at Ole Miss and Alabama. This puts the Razorbacks at 20-10, and 9-7 in the SEC, but the Razorbacks go one and done in the SEC tourney, giving them a 20-11 overall record in a down year in the SEC, and the committee surprises everyone leaving the Razorbacks as one of the last teams out.

I hope I’m wrong. You can chime in with your thoughts in the comments below, or you can answer the poll in the sidebar, or both. Or neither.

Your turn. Go!

We end the year 2-2, beating Alabama on the road and Auburn at home, losing the other two. We win two in the SEC tourney, and make the NCAA tourney where we win one then lose second round thereby completely crushing my very optimistic bracket.

I think we can go 3-1 to close out the regular season. 10-6 in conference play isn’t bad and we have a pretty good RPI to boot. If we can just maintain a consistent game, then we can win out. We had Kentucky on the ropes, twice, but the focus just isn’t there. If we get it together, watch out other teams. If not, please kick our ass and get the Stan Heath Six out of here sooner.
