BuildSmart tells its side of the story

If you’re anything like us, you’re probably wondering what all the fuss is about concerning Fayetteville High School. There’s a pretty juicy debate going on right now and eventually you’re gonna have to pick a side.

One argument is to sell FHS to the University of Arkansas and use the money for a brand new school. Then there are those who’d prefer the school to expand at it’s current location. Without the proper amount of information, it’s nearly impossible to come to a logical conclusion as to where you stand.

One group, BuildSmart, has put together a website to help explain why they believe FHS should stay right where it is. The group describes itself as “a coalition of parents, teachers, students and other school district patrons who believe in keeping one of Fayetteville’s most important components – its high school — in a central location.”

The site is filled with all kinds of information from a simple mission statement to detailed maps, articles, links and even the minutes from recent relevant school board meetings. Head on over to the site to see why they believe keeping FHS where it is would be cheaper, safer and more environmentally friendly than moving it to the edge of the school district.

And with that, we’d like to ask this question to those who’d prefer the school to move: Why should we stand by you? And more importantly, where is your website?

[UPDATE: Here's their website]

I’ve seen the other side’s website.

They need to work on their website.

They make some good points, but it would be nice if someone made some counter points. The $110-$145 million estimate seems a bit high to me.

Hello, Jarsh, et al. Thanks for the shout out about our newly active website. We hope folks find it useful in navigating what is a complex debate … but one worth some attention.

On our estimates of the high cost of rebuilding the entire campus somewhere else, please see our news release on the that subject. It points to where we got our per/sq/foot estimates and talks about the additional costs that will be incurred by taxpayers, costs not yet considered in the district’s official esimates.

Hey there the Steve, beebs.com offers some very compelling arguments. I suggest you spend some more time on the site and then come to a conclusion.

Thanks Beebs. That was both informative and uplifting.

I personally think they should simply close the high school all together and go to a loose, verbal agreement with all students to “study their hardest” on their own. Either that or move it to Winslow.

BuildSmart tells it is side of the story, or its side of the story?

I think there is an extra apostrophe in the title of this story.

Anyone?
