Flyer Profile: Shiny Around the Edges

Shiny Around the Edges is a band from Denton Texas. They will be playing at the New Deli on Thursday, April 3rd with Blair Harris and Inchworm.

They have shared stages with the likes of The Gossip, Mates of State, Mayday, Neva Dinova, Castanets, Mal Madrigal, The Baptist Generals, Shearwater, and The Evangelicals. You can check out one of their tracks by clicking below. If you like what you hear, the whole record is available online here.

They were nice enough to answer some questions for us as well.

Fayetteville Flyer: What are you listening to lately?

Shiny Around the Edges: The Ex, Mary J. Blige, Early Lines, the new Neva Dinova album, as yet unreleased Castanets songs, The Beatles, Danzig, Billie Holiday

FF: What bands have some of your members been in previously?

SATE: Heck… three of our members are in other bands right now. Ed and Josh are in the Last Men (and used to be in Fra Pandolf), Justin is in Drink to Victory and was a member of the epic noisescape artists Notes from Underground.

FF: How’s the scene in Dallas / Ft Worth / Denton these days? Any bands we should check out?

SATE: The d/DFW scene is great. There are a ton of shows, places to play, and lots of folks who are all friends doing creative things. As far as bands, there are too many to list… Dust Congress, Mom, Florene, Tre Orsi, Record Hop, Bosque Brown, Nouns Group, Fight Bite, Daniel Francis Doyle, Delmore Pilcrow, Seth Sherman… too many… too many!

FF: You guys just got back from SXSW. What were some of the best bands?

SATE: Dark Meat is going to rule the world! Record Hop put on a good show too and really enjoyed seeing Ladyfinger (NE). Headdress were great as were The Woods and Weird Weeds.

FF: Have you ever been to Arkansas? If so, what’s your impression of the state?

SATE: We played Fayetteville last year and had a blast… lots of nice people. We hadn’t been before and were kind of blown away by how physically beautiful the Fayetteville area was.

FF: What’s the definition of success for Shiny Around the Edges?

SATE: Playing music together and then having a drink afterwards.
