What bands do you want to see in Fayetteville?
Alright, peeps. We all had our say when the lineups for the Dickson St. Music Festival and the Amp came out. Some of it was positive, some of it negative, so now the question is this; what would you do if you were Majestic Concerts, or University Programs, or some other promoter or club owner or magician, or whatever and it was your job to fill a venue?
What bands would you bring to town?
This game is not without rules, though, so here they are:
1. No bands that are dead. This is not a what-bands-would-you-see-if-you-could-see-any-band-living-or-dead kind of post, so don’t even put “Jimmy Hendrix, dude” cause that guy is dead. Sorry dudes. The idea is that you’ve got to be a least a little realistic here which leads me to
2. No bands that are bigger than Jesus. Come on ya’ll, this is Fayetteville we’re talking about, so not exactly the biggest market in the world and we’re not going to get Radiohead to come play the mall parking lot, so don’t say Radiohead cause it’s not gonna happen.
3. Pretend your butt is on the line. Now that you have a list in your head, imagine that you were the promoter and if the venue didn’t get at least half full, you were gonna lose a lot of money and possibly respect. Just because you and your 25 friends love a particular band doesn’t mean it’s gonna draw in enough money to make it worth your while. This is where it gets tricky so think real hard.
4. Take off your pants. Um…try it. You’ll love it…
You never know who’s reading this, so maybe we can get more of the bands you’d like to see in town here if the powers that be get a better idea of what you guys want.
Ok. Clear? Awesome. Go.

Jimi Hendrix, dude.
In all honesty, getting James Taylor to play the amp would be RAD. I’d love it… and so would my dad.
Wilco would undoubtedly be huge and I’d love to see them again.
For a smaller show, I’d say Band of Horses and Rilo Kiley.
Oh yeah! My Morning Jacket would rule!
By Tomforth on April 16th, 2008
Mastodon.
By Corey on April 16th, 2008
Jonathan Coulton wouldn’t be half-bad.
Or perhaps The New Pornographers…or They Might Be Giants…
or Ween…oh wait.
By ts on April 16th, 2008
Kings of Leon would totally rock…
The Racontuers (Jack White’s side project)
or just the White Stripes
The Amp lineup/Majestic Concerts thing is pretty sweet…OneRepublic coming here is HUGE. In the past, we have struggled to have newer big acts come here, they, alongside the Black Crowes, Charlie Daniels, Sonic Youth, 38 Special, and the other acts are gunna help A LOT in the future getting new acts I bet…
By the Steve on April 17th, 2008
Kings of Leon would be awesome.
I’d love to get Arcade Fire down here somehow.
Black Mountain, and She and Him would also be awesome, but I’d settle for just M. Ward.
Wilco and Spoon have already been here, but if they wanted to come back I wouldn’t complain. I think these guys are about the right size bands for the Amp.
I agree with ts, some of these bands coming for the DSMF can only help.

Al Green, Dinosaur Jr., My Morning Jacket.
Also any band that was around during 120 Mintues of MTV fame that is touring for fun. Berlin, New Order, Flock of Seagulls, The Fixx, Adam Ant, Billy Idol, The Plimsouls, etc. etc.

I would like to second the nominations of the Raconteurs, M. Ward, and Black Mountain. Black Mountain played Little Rock recently, and they were really good, and they drew more people than I expected. I know not everybody was pleased with the Fayetteville Spoon show, but they would be a nice addition to a festival, and it might be easier to get bands that have been here before.
By Tomforth on April 17th, 2008
I’d go to a Black Mountain show, fo’ sho’.
By Not JTrain on April 17th, 2008
I’d like to second JTrain on getting James Taylor.
By the way, this is absolutely not JTrain.

The Kings of Leon were almost at the Dickson Street Music Festival this year. They were approached, but you’ll notice they aren’t on tour right now.
Black Mountain would be cool. So would The Hold Steady. They come through Little Rock every so often, so they might be a good option. They are getting ready to drop a new album, so they should be touring later this year.
My Morning Jacket would be outstanding. One of the best live bands out there, IMHO (another being Muse). I think even a band like that it too big for Fay-Town, though.
But indie rock is a tough market here now. At that Spoon show, which was FREE, I thought the turnout was dreadful.
Here’s the deal, like the Steve said, but with a caveat: Some of these bands coming for the DSMF (and the AMP) can only help — if people show up for those concerts, that is.

Yeasayer, gogol Bordello, Sharon Jones and the Dap Kings, Black Keys and for my most wanted and I would seriously be forever grateful to whoever booked him please for the love of jebus I wanna see LYRICS BORN =)
By jawikst on April 17th, 2008
I would like Arcade Fire…
Only if they played in the parking lot of the Chick Fil A on 6th street.
Plus Tom Petty. So many mega hits.
By Strokitecture on April 17th, 2008
Arcade Fire and My Morning Jacket:
both cool enough to find our town a viable option and to have a rocken time playing here. seriously promoters, put these guys on your list and get to work.
Also consider: Yeasayer, Tapes ‘N (motherf*cken!) Tapes, MGMT, Ghostland Observatory…
By SteezyDeezy on April 17th, 2008
Yes, MMJ would be sweet. Apes and Androids…fun stuff too.
By Angel Lust on April 17th, 2008
I’m old. Like Woodstock old. I’ve never heard of most of the bands listed above. But gawd the music scene is stale around here. I would rather see entertainment that is new and fresh and brings enthusiasm like in these posts than more half deaf oldsters(well, unless you can get Springsteen). If you promise not to male fun of me, I’ll check some of them out.
By Sardon on April 18th, 2008
The Radiators. The subdudes. Neville Bros. funky Meters. Dr. John. Oh, why don’t I just go to Jazz Fest.
How about Chuck Berry? Ry Cooder. Bring back David Lindley.
By zh on April 18th, 2008
Bring back TV On the Radio, too.
How about bands for the young and old:
Tom Petty and Springsteen are at the top of that list, but probably way too expensive. What about John Prine? He plays everywhere else in Arkansas. Willie plays in Eureka Springs. Maybe could catch him on his way through.
By brains on April 18th, 2008
Vampire Weekend please.
By the Steve on April 18th, 2008
John Prine! Yes.
By nhobbs on April 18th, 2008
New Kids on the Block! No, seriously. As a girl who was in love with NKOTB back in the day, I think it would be hilarious and fun to see them play here. But only if they played their old songs. No new stuff. Do they have new stuff? Anyway, you know they’d have a great turnout. It’s all about the nostalgia.
By kasey on April 18th, 2008
ooooo yeah john prine
By Kornedog on April 18th, 2008
I saw NKOTB at the Benton County Fairgrounds back in the day and somehow managed to stay straight into adulthood.
I’d love to see Sufjan Stevens come around and, if we can find the right venue, The Polyphonic Spree. Shooting kind of high, I know, but hell’s bells would that rule.
By Ghostface on April 18th, 2008
Of those already mentioned I think Al Green, Band of Horses, and Lyrics Born would be fun and have big turn outs. I’d like to ad N.E.R.D as well. They played Lawrence not too long ago and I hear it was crazy.
By Jeff on April 19th, 2008
The Neville brothers would be cool. Yo La Tengo, Blonde Redhead, Andrew Bird would also be great.
By El Dookie on April 20th, 2008
I’d like to see Cream Dream, Fairfield 9, Hoopla Love, or Nigel Griggs. But I’d be the only one at those shows. Because I’m the only one in the area that’s ever heard of these people. I’m so cool.
Oh, and I would also love to see NKOTB!
By Mr. Anthropic on April 21st, 2008
Tom – Mastodon has played Fayetteville. Twice.
Bring back Hank III
how bout…
King Diamond!!!!
By bryce on April 23rd, 2008
I have to agree that I was pretty embarrassed by the Spoon turnout. It was such a kick ass show, with lighting and everything. And it was free for God’s sake!
KOL. I saw them at Cain’s last year. Face melting
I would also love to get The Whigs back for a headline gig.
By George on April 24th, 2008
Agree with Bryce on 2 counts: (1)The Spoon show turnout was disappointing. Where the hell were all the college kids??? The show was totally ass-kicking. When Britt Daniel finished up the set by ripping up a guitar solo after the rest of the band had already bailed out due to the pouring rain & lightning…YES!!! (2)I was at that KOL show at Cain’s as well and it was face melting. That is a quality rock & roll band.
Mastodon was in Fayetteville…twice?!?!? How did I miss that?
Bands I would love to see come to Fayetteville: Arcade Fire (pipe dream), TVOTR, My Morning Jacket, Silversun Pickups, Band of Horses, Of Montreal, The Brunettes (would be a bitchin’ chilled time), Tegan & Sara (shhh), Animal Collective, MGMT, The Black Keys…oh, and Radiohead of course
We should be able to get more of the quality Austin bands who are tired of playing in Austin: Ghostland Observatory, What Made Milwaukee Famous, Ryan Bingham, Spoon (again), etc
By ts on April 24th, 2008
George…Nice…
By Mr. Anthrope on April 24th, 2008
Yeah, they played at Clunk both times – touring for the 1st ep, Remission.
We were stoked b/c a couple of those dudes used to be in Today Is The Day, another jam-band – check ‘em out, hippies.
By doubleK on April 24th, 2008
Ryan Bingham was supposed to come to the AMP with Jason Isbell and Cross Canadian Ragweed. He’s canceled, and it’s a shame.
By FAYNAMRES on July 29th, 2008
Thom Bones, Butt Trumpet, Bad Religion, NOFX, Ministry, Slightly Stoopid, Rolling Stones, Youth Brigade, Tom Petty, Siouxsie & the Banshees, Cock Sparrer, The Cure, The Business.
Whatever happended to the SK8 Station having shows? I thought that was Neil’s plan?

@ts
I’ll see your The Raconteurs & raise you The Dead Weather (Jack’s other side-side-project w/Allison Mosshart of The Kills, Dean Fertita from QotSA and Jack Lawrence) and add:
:Frank Black! Because it’s too much strain on my poor heart to even hope for another Pixies reunion…
:speaking of The Kills?
:The Ravonettes (happy, honey?)
:whoever Grohl’s playing with these days
:and a fusion of Miley Cyrus w/Toad the Wet Sprocket called Toad the Wet Miley.
By Urk on January 28th, 2010
there’s a great, great little band from Tuscaloosa called the Dexateens that I think people in Fayetteville would go crazy for. Great songs, and amazingly rocking live show.
Oh, and my new band, HOTT, if we can ever get our butts out of the frozen wasteland up here in Iowa.
