What’s happening to The Gypsy?

April 21, 2008 2:29 pm · By Todd Gill · 17 Comments

Tuned In just posted about the final days of The Gypsy and mentioned that the exact details of what it will become are being kept under the rug for the time being.

The final show is this Saturday April 26 and is scheduled to include about 12 hours of music in what’s being called a “Farewell Bash.” We think a more suitable date for a final show might’ve been any weekend but this weekend (for fairly obvious reasons), but whatevs.

The real question, however, is what will become of the building? The word on the street is that an “upscale biker bar” (your guess is as good as ours) named Froggies is taking over but so far, nobody seems to be able to come up with any hard evidence.

So we turn to you, our dear readers. What’s going down at 402 W. Dickson St.? Are we getting an upscale biker bar with an ironically wacky name or is the Gypsy passing the torch to a like-minded local?

We gots ta know, Fayetteville. Help us out!

That is what is happening, I have heard this from very valuable resources…But nothing is for sure. I also heard they are not going to have the patio. So basically, they are making a place that is not the greatest even worse and probably turning the only money maker they have into what will probably be bike parking…This is lame.

That sucks. Why would you not utilize that patio? It’s huge and relatively new.

Weird.

Upscale Biker? This is an oxyMORON!

Yes “upscale biker morons”…real riders ride and don’t need a patio to park. Support your local musician.

Instead of a “Biker Bar” they should call it a “Middle aged, upperclass, white-guy turd with too much time and money, going through a midlife crissis, who looks ridiculous in black leather bar.”

I hadn’t heard anything about the patio. If it closes, that will be sad indeed, regardless of how cool the indoor area is.

CD (seedy) Lounge is coming back. All improvements will be scrapped.
The patio will become a reflecting pool for the Legacy Bldng.

My friend told me he is going to be booking bands for the venue. We talked about some of the bands he might be booking, and, let me tell you, they certainly don’t seem very biker friendly. Also, it seems really unlikely that he would have neglected to mention that it is going to be a biker bar.

I’ve heard rumors about some of the bands, too. The Tyrones (blues rock) are in, and from what I understand, the booking agent has also tried a few hillbilly rock bands and I know they’ve chatted with Maud Crawford (southern rock), too.

I’m really hoping for indie bands. Good ones, too.

Did someone say “leather bar?”

I saw a bike just like those green ones parked outside the new Chick Fil A on 6th street.

I can say definitely that the fellow who is now leasing the property is a club owner from K.C. He owns other “upscale biker” music venues and does intend to name it “Froggy’s”. It is likely to be a good while until it is open for business, though he says he’s scheduling a June opening. Supposedly, there are bold ambitions for changes to the facility and the entertainment, but there is already enough douchbaggery in his dealings that I don’t trust him or his intentions. Personally, I won’t go there if he books Bruce Springsteen.

it is very sad the Gypsi closed, it was an awesome summer bar. now the only outdoor music venue, in the dickson area, is at Powerhouse, and it is infested with comb overs and prom queens. I think as long as new lease owner to the gypsi is not Tony C, then it wouldnt be too bad, and it will stay open longer than 3 months. In the bar world, upscale usually means expensive drinks, and a cover charge. Its probably going to attract the Stir crowd, and adopt the ” girls get in for free, but guys gotta pay” policy….which sucks. a Biker theme bar may be a good idea…but a real biker bar, not so much

To El-Dickie, I mean El-dookie. When the bar opens why dont you go tell the middle ages turds what ya think of them face to face. Whats wrong, a lil competition to your lil prick punk self? Too bad your so INSECURE WITH YOURSELF THAT YA CANT ADAPT TO A LITTLE CHANGE. Maybe you should protest during bikes blues and barbq or check out “Tangerine”
