Club Froggy’s opening delayed

By Todd Gill · June 10, 2008 3:59 pm · No comments

A couple of months ago, we asked ya’ll for some help on figuring out what’s going in at the old Gypsy location. Today we finally got some answers via Tuned In and it appears as though the new owners are planning to open any day now.

Club Froggy’s is the official name and apparently they were supposed to open tomorrow (June 11) but their custom-built, wood-fired pizza stove is somewhere on a truck between Stove City, USA and Fayetteville. Judging from their website, they’re gonna be serving up “Woodfire Pizza and Famous Wings” alongside four bars and two stages.

Is it me or is it a little premature to call your wings “famous” when you haven’t even started serving them yet? Here at the Flyer, we love us some wings. I suppose we’ll have to see for ourself if theirs are indeed worthy of such a name. Or maybe the folks over at LunchTour could help us out?

I’m assuming the stages will be the same as the Gypsy with one being inside and one out on the patio. Acccording to Tuned In, the first few weeks will be heavy on local music with some “major-label talent” scheduled for later in the summer.

Anybody have any idea what “major-label talent” means?

Complicating the issue is that without a pizza oven, they can’t get a health inspection. Without a health inspection, they can’t get a liquor license approved.

Major-label talent (my phrase) was meant to indicate at least one of the bands they are working on is on one of the big-four national music labels (read: within the last two years had an album debut in the Billboard Top 10).

If they can pull it off it would be HUGE.

Here’s to hoping Jim Henson sues the pants off these guys…

“within the last two years had an album debut in the Billboard Top 10″ I did a little math on this one and Tim McGraw is sooo coming here or maybe if we are really, really lucky Kid Rock! or Miley Cyrus. ‘Cause all the other number one albums were mostly hip-hop and I know how you white people feel about that here (Afroman totally rules!) oh wait I forgot Rascal Flatts had a #1 in ’06, w00t, that is a shoe in for sure. Unless it is Nas, Kanye, or nevermind… I already hate this bar.

Unless Maroon 5 plays, I pretty much consider them “my band”.

I’m excited about this place. Until they prove otherwise, it’s a club on Dickson St. that is committed (at least initially) to live music.

So, until they’ve had a chance to suck, then I say, they rule.

To the dude (I’m into the whole brevity thing):

Yes, you’re right, a lot of the strongest sellers are hip-hop or pop… but Death Cab for Cutie, Modest Mouse and Wilco also debuted in the Top 10 in the past two years.

It’s none of them, but think along those lines.

All I know is that I just found out Christmas Fuller Project is playing there on July 5th. Kick ass. Hopefully.
