Pesticide Causes Outbreak at the Health Department?

June 19, 2008 10:52 am · By Dustin · 3 Comments

Upwards of 26 people at the Washington County Health Department were hospitalized this morning due to some strange sickness suspected to be pesticide related.

The victims experienced exreme nausea and vomiting, and excessive salivation, among other symptoms.

From the 40/29 website, “One witness reported seeing several people vomiting uncontrollably.”

Police, fire, HAZMAT and ambulance crews arrived at the scene this morning after several people began showing up at the ER due to the sickness.

Apparently everyone is in stable condition at Washington Regional Medical center, and they are pretty sure it’s a pesticide that’s causing all the problems, but of course, we at the Flyer have to ask “WTF, health department?”

Anybody have any more info on this?

I found out about this story right after Rid-A-Pest (evidently the company that the WCHD has a contract with) sprayed at my office. One of my coworkers said that he heard one of the symptoms was “ncontrollable droolingu.” When I started drooling on my piece of paper in a meeting (while thinking of a delicious chicken wrap from the new Chick Fil A on 6th street), hilarity ensued. True story.

Sounds like typical symptoms of pesticide exposure… Wonder what the pest control company sprayed?
