Have you been jonesing for “a doorway into the Mellow Mushroom world that beckons you to stop and Taste Life?” Were you just thinking the other day that Fayetteville is long overdue for a pizza joint that evolved from Bohemian roots of the 60’s and 70’s? Do you often wish that “melt in your mouth dough” would just appear from the grass near Joyce Blvd and “cosmically transcend you from then to now and beyond?”
Well your wait is over, folks. From the looks of their website, Mellow Mushroom Pizza Bakers will be here faster than you can say Puff The Black Magic Zombie-Smoking Dragon from Tiju-freakin’-uana.
With over 75 locations across the country, this psychedelic subculture of a pizza chain is sure to please pie lovers of all kinds. The vegans will love the high-gluten, no refined sugar, dairy/egg-free dough while the drunks will appreciate one-of-a-kind microbrews. Everyone else will be way too high to care. In other words, it’s a dream come true for a town full of liberal hippies.
Anybody ever been to one of these? Sounds awesome to us.
We’ll let you know as soon as we find out exactly when this shroom plans on popping in…and of course, any other details we can dig up.
Oh, and a big thanks to reader Christina for the heads up on this one!

There is a Mellow Mushroom up the road from me now. I really like it, the pizza kicks ass…and all the beers are microbrews (except for the token light beer on tap.)

I have eaten at the MM in Asheville, NC. It was great and I didn’t know it was a chain of stores. Will look forward to eating great pizza there.

I agree that the mellowness of that mushroom stuff is super silly, even though I do love to color on a blacklight-like fuzzy poster. But, I have eaten at one of these and while I was skeptial at first it is pretty tasty! Not as tasty as a 8-piece chicken nugget with polynesian sauce from the new Chick Fil A on 6th street.

Ur very welcome, Ted Dancin’. I got a heads-up on the opening date for MM. Someone from corporate told me it would open in September if building goes according to plan. This weather is about to piss me off tho. I live off Zion road, where road and building construction is going on all the damn time. Will it ever end?
July 9th, 2008 at 8:16 pm
Unfortunately, no. It will never end. Thanks for the update, though, Christina!

Mushrooms: Not always mellow.
Chain restaurants: Are you really that excited about this?
Chain restaurants with a hippy feel good vibe: As you may have noticed from the co-op’s metastasis, the only thing more irritating than a faux-mellow hippy attitude is faux-mellow hippies with a very serious boner for making money.

I’m excited. But then again, I like a lot of chain restaurants. Color me sold out.

Schrooms– nearly (nearly) almost mellow.
But hard to find.
