Flyer Profile: Charliehorse
Charliehorse is a band, mostly from Fayetteville, that blends country, bluegrass, southern rock, blues, and funk. It’s made up of Cody Russell (Boston Mtn Boys), Stacy Liles (Jupiter Hollow, Eckobase) Ben Wardlaw, David Bright (Randy Crouch/Mothership/Egotrip), and Brad Helms.
If you ask me, Fayetteville should absolutely have good country bands. I mean, we are in Arkansas. Johnny Cash was born in Arkansas.
I haven’t heard many good ones.
Until now. Charliehorse is pretty bitching. If you don’t believe me, check out their Myspace page. Stacy Liles was nice enough to answer a few questions for us. Thanks Stacy.
FF: What are you listening to lately?
CH: The new Drive by Truckers, the Raconteurs, Shooter Jennings and Centro-Matic
FF: Who are some of the best bands in Fayetteville right now?
CH: Wade Ogle’s new project is great. In the spirit of full disclosure, Cody and I both played in the new record hehe!
A Good Fight is making some waves I hear. Ben Del Shreve and the Good Fear.
FF:You guys seem to do a fair amount of traveling. Do you guys make a living playing music?
CH: At this point we are pretty much going out and hitting it the weekends and then coming back to the day job through the week.
FF: How do you perceive the music scene in Fayetteville?
CH: I think it might have peaked out around 2000-2001. We then started to see the demise of JR’s, Dave’s and Chester’s. That was a obvious sign that there was less demand for live music in Fayetteville.
FF:What does success look like for Charliehorse?
CH: For us a short term success would be to get another album in the tank.
FF:What’s your favorite place to play?
CH: George’s is still our favorite but the Mean Eyed Cat in Austin is coming on strong.

This kind of music sounds like the Ozarks.
And we live in the Ozarks.
Tits.

Oh.
Well, I forgot about that.
The band is good, politics aside.
Is that possible?
