My thinking on this is since it’s a weed movie, you have to judge it with a whole different set of rules. So as a weed movie, it was pretty good.

This is one of the better Apatow productions by far. Knocked Up felt more extemporaneous, and that is certainly a large part of the joke with these guys, but unlike most of his other films there wasn’t an over-the-top emotional ending. It’s hard to take a movie with a completely unrealistic love story seriously, and with Apatow movies it just tears down the guise of spontaneity. Pineapple Express was easy to digest all the way through because the unrealistic parts were all action movie spoof (a genre that isn’t meant to be taken seriously in the first place) and because the stoners/losers weren’t magically landing super-hotties, they were just getting stoned.
