UA’s offer for FHS: Revoked
It looks like officials at the University of Arkansas don’t want to sit around and twiddle their thumbs while the Fayetteville school board figures out what to do about the FHS situation. You see, early today, the U of A revoked their $50 million offer on the current FHS land and facilities.
That’s just great. More drama. That’s the last thing the whole FHS debacle needs right now.
While the annoucement may come as a big blow to some, I’d be willing to bet that the folks at BuildSmart.org danced a little jig when they got the news. As for the Students First crew? I doubt they were real pleased with the announcement. No jig dancing for them.
With the U of A pulling their offer off the table, that now makes two bids for the property that have been reneged. Remember how those mystery millionaires that comprised the Campus Building Group LLC made a $60 million offer only to turn around and tell the school board to forget about it?
In a letter to Steve Percival, President of the Fayetteville Board of Education, U of A Chancellor G. David Gearhart had the following to say:
“We have reached a point in this process at which we need to turn our attention toward exploring other strategic initiatives and facilities upgrades. To ignore these other priorities while in a long-term holding pattern over the high school offer would be fiscally irresponsible and compromise our ability to move the institution forward in the best interests of our students, our faculty, our staff, and our alumni.”
KHOG is reporting that “verbal indication has been made to the university from school board representatives that no action is likely to be taken on the offer for several more months.” Looks like the folks at the F-Ville Board of Education let the offer go stale.
I hate to say it, but selling the property might be a little more difficult for the F-Ville school board now… if they decide to go that route, that is.
Chancellor Gearhart indicated that they may be interested in purchasing the property at a later date, but would move forward without the FHS building in their plans.
Since the U of A has backed out of their offer, we at the Fayetteville Flyer would like to make a formal bid of exactly one thousand dollars American for the FHS facilities, land and mineral rights. Unlike the U of A, we’ve got all the time in the world… and a thousand bucks to blow.
We’ll also trade you for an ‘89 Buick Le Sabre, if that sounds more appealing.
PS – Chicks dig dudes with Le Sabres.

Good for everybody except the developers and their puppets on the School Board. Chancellor Gearhart is brilliant. Didn’t the C play football for FHS? Wasn’t Dave a tough little running back?
