Hogs win. Whaddy’all think?

  • by Todd Gill, Flyer Staff

For various reasons, the Fayetteville Flyer staff didn’t make it to the game on Saturday. We can assure you, however, between the radio coverage and what some folks call the “internet”, we each were there every step of the way in some fashion.

Unfortunately for me, I was following via delayed coverage on a cell phone and was about a minute or two behind the rest of you guys. Those last ten minutes nearly ate me alive. As excited as I was becoming, it was a little hard to stomach the fact that I was crossing my fingers for a last-minute comeback…against Western friggin’ Illinois.

We have so many questions, we don’t even know where to begin. How about that new hog at center field? How about the new jerseys (and red pants)? How about Casey “Vick”? Petrino? Did anyone see the helmet car? Man, I hate missing games!

Who went to the game and who’s willing to play the journalist here? I could read the paper but I’d rather hear it from the fans. What do you guys think of the new era?

Keep the faith. This year is going to be lost. Rebuilding is hell. Ask Michigan.

Actually the most concerning development is that the Razorbacks may not be the best college team in the state. Arkansas State 18 Texas A&M 14 at A&M. So is it time to finally get that Arkansas vs Arkansas State game together? Maybe the second game of the year. Maybe throw LR a bone and put it in their building?

Our kicking game sucked. We never really backed them up on a kickoff or punt. Their field position was good all game.

Our passing game was pretty sick once it got rolling. Lots of dropped passes, and Dick had very little time to throw in the 1Q.

Our defense is a big disappointment. We really miss our linebackers that are out right now.

I think once Smith plays and we have some semblance of a running game, and if we can get our linebackers back, we will be a lot better.

I have a huge mancrush on Bobby Petrino so I have endless faith that he will make a lot of corrections this week before the Monroe game.

Oh, and the game presentation was pretty seamless.

The new intro video is sex.

It shows various legends of Razorback football, kind of running around Razorback stadium in a dream like animation. At the end, it shows DMac’s big run against LSU, with the Casey Dick pancake block. The vid follows DMac into the end zone, and then he transforms into Bobby P. Coach P turns around and says something inaudible, but its super awesome.

There are fireworks things attached to the roof of the Broyles Complex now that go off at the expected times.

All in all everything was tighter, and better and more exciting.

You really need to find that intro video and watch it. Its on Youtube somewhere.

    Here are some way-too-close-up photos.

Hauumbrah. We’ve already used the skin of our teeth to survive a girl’s school. La Monroe would be in the crap subdivision too if not for the kindness of the Hogs in letting them call War Memorial games Home games. It would be a tiny bit better than losing to the Citadel to lose to LM.

Then, Texas, Tulsa and Conference. I’m hearing the numbers one and eleven roll around in my head. Haauuummmbrah.

The Genius and the return of some better players will make us get better, but it’s going to take a while, like at least a year, maybe several. Be prepared to lose, lose, lose. Learn to take it. We’ll all build character.
