Bring it Back: Goldie’s
There are some places that we really, really wish were still around. JR’s Lightbulb Club, for example. That place was a mainstay for so many of us beer drinkers and show-goers.
When Goldie’s closed their doors a few years back, I was heart-broken. You see, I freaking LOVED Goldie’s. Or, more accurately, I loved the burger baskets, chip and salsa bar and the wait staff at Goldie’s. Almost every Wednesday night, I would meet several of my friends there and we’d each get a burger basket, which consisded of one pitcher of beer and four “junior” burgers for the low, low price of just five damn dollars! It was the deal of the century decade year month week! Yeah, burger basket night at Goldie’s probably caused me to add a few notches to my belt, but for all the fun we had, it was definitely worth it.
We were regulars. Everytime we came in the staff was happy to see us. They gave us a hard time, but were almost always in a good mood and that’s just one more reason why we loved Goldie’s so much.
When Goldie’s closed, they did some renovation and became The Boston Mountain Grill. I planned on going and checking it out, but when I got wind that the burger baskets were a thing of the past(NOOOO!!!), I decided to pass. Doing away with the burger baskets was a deal breaker for me… and I know I wasn’t alone.
Everytime I drive by the empty building on College where I had so many great times, I get hungry for a delicious burg… and occasionally some chips and salsa.
We really, really need to bring Goldie’s back. Please? Somebody? I’ll buy you a burger basket.

Old Goldie’s fan here as well. I’ve known the owner for a long time (super guy) and he really tried to make it work (when it no longer was) for a long time. He sank a good deal of money into it reinventing as BMG. I think a lot of that restuarant traffic moved out to restuarant row (Red Robin etc…). That lot seems to have the kiss of death now. Anyway, he co-owns the new/revamped Schlotsky’s and seems to be doing well there.

Goldie’s was an example of the “I’ll eat anywhere as long as the beer is cheap” philosophy. Those burgers were not good, neither were the chips and salsa, but that place ruled. JTrain barfed there once, I saw it. I spent so many Wednesdays there using loan money to fill my belly full of beer.
There wasn’t another deal like it, anywhere. Telling people about the deal was awesome. They never believed it until they were staring down a pitcher of semi-flat beer and four tiny gross burgers, and then, they were forever grateful.

Didn’t they do penny pitchers?

bryce – I remember them having 99 cent pitchers on Wednesdays… or was it Thursdays? I always rocked the burger basket, so I can’t be 100% positive. Either way, they had cheap beer.

Yeah…I thought I remembered really cheap pitchers. That was awesome.

It all went down hill when Faliene left. If you were a long time customer of Goldies/BMG you know who Faline was. I still miss her. Hell I got drunk one night an proposed to her, ahhh the one that got away.

TD- So what you’re telling me is- a restaurant with a bun kicking beer special, sponsored by a classic rock station that’s named after a humongous beer container slash beer transport device can’t survive in Fayetteville? It may be time for me to move. How’s springdale?

Goldie’s was my 2nd home. The owner and I go way back. It was like sitting down to a family dinner everytime I went in there. Fayetteville has truely lost something special when that pickle bar left town. SAD, Sad, sad…
