Alamo Drafthouse coming?
If the rumors are true, Dagobas might not be the only food-n-drink cinema in town before long.
The Fayetteville Free Weekly’s Daddy Warbucks is reporting that we could see a Fayetteville-based location within two years.
The cinemas specialize in showing first-run and independent films as well as offering an in-theatre food and beverage service that includes appetizers, sandwiches, pizzas and salads as well as hand-crafted beers and wines. They’re also the only concept in the cinema-eatery category that is currently franchising.
We’ve contacted the folks at Alamo Drafthouse and we’ll let you know if we find out anything more.

God I hope this happens. A real theater that serves food, beer and wine? Yes, please. I will patronize this place like crazy… iffin’ it happens, that is.

yes yes and yes. it should be in the old uark theater on dickson. i want that building.

JTrain,
We already have a theater that serves food, beer and wine (Dagoba’s) ….unfortunately hardly anyone is patronizing this place at all, much less like crazy. (though they really need a better business model)
I’m pretty sure this is all rumor, and I’ll probably get in touch with Alamo to find out the truth behind it…cause if it’s true, I’ll probably try to get on board.

Bo – I’ve had the same experiences as Ted. Everytime I try to go, there’s something else going on and movies aren’t being played. I guess movies are only shown during the weeknights?

I had similar experiences as Ted and JTrain.
But it seems a moot point now that Dagoba’s is closed.

Did it close already?
By Boggy Creek Creature on October 4th, 2008
Yep.
The Roller Girls were supposed to have a party there last night, but they had to cancel.
I didn’t hear one good word about it while it was open.
I don’t know about how they ran the business, but it seems like a bad idea from the start that they had to “close” whenever somebody else rented the space.
The idea is still an awesome one. Somebody will come along and give us our bar/theatre combo. I’m sure of it.

yeah i tried to go to Dagoba’s as well, but they were closed for a party. Also, they couldn’t even to both to put a website,Blog or Myspace that had their schedule. Schedule is very important! Also, it is really easy to put up a basic blogger site or something with a schedule.

Yes, I also had the same experiences. I had a lengthy chat with the owner during the first week of business and he explained the random closings for private parties. When he took out the lease on the building there were still several outstanding party reservations that he decided to honor as they would generate a large amount of revenue for him (which was a smart move to start with) however, he never made any effort to get any sort of presence in town outside of his marquee so people had no idea what was going on there.
Second mistake, opening two months before you get your furniture and new theatre system. This is just a no brainer…don’t open a business when you don’t even have your main product yet. That’s like a bar opening up before they have beer and liquor.
Conceptually it was a good idea…it was just poorly executed. I tried to get them to give me a schedule so I could put it up on my website and mention it on my show, but they were unable to even do that. I’m pretty sure they were showing movies illegally during the last few weeks, as it is required to have a public viewing license for films if you’re showing them in a public place like that, and showing two different movies each night is out of anyones price range (especially when the public viewing licenses for the star wars movies are ridiculous, and they showed all three.) Perhaps they closed cause he got busted for that? Who knows…

When I talked to the owner in the opening days, he said he paid about 300 bucks in fees for Reservoir Dogs. That’s manageable if you show it all week, or just on the weekend with a packed house. Either way, it was completely foolish not to work with the Drive-In Speakerbox.
Now, which would be the better spot to try that idea again: the UARK Bowl? or Sidney’s?

I think the Curry’s Video building would be a good locale.
That entire area is looking up with Lacuna and Maude now on the scene.
Throw in the College Ave improvements happening just up the block to Maple and something like Alamo could really anchor an expansion of our cool part of town.
On another note, as the UAMSNW opens up next fall, I expect the entire area from North to Dickson to become much cooler and for property values to jump.

“I think the Curry’s Video building would be a good locale.”
If you can get the ever-present reek of cigarettes and nervous porn sweat out of there, maybe.
What’s all this about Dickson to North, TB? I thought you were all about South Fayetteville.
Come on, we southies need to stick together.
