The Return of Punkinhead

If you lived in Fayetteville in the late 80’s / early 90’s and you cared at all about local music, then you probably heard of and saw Punkinhead.

This month, the legendary Fayetteville-based funk band will reunite for three shows in Arkansas. “The Punkinhead Family Reunion” will be held Friday, Oct 31 (Halloween Night) at the Green Door in Fayetteville. Also in Fayetteville on Saturday, Nov 1 they will be the main event for the Fayetteville Ultimate Frisbee Team’s Harvest Moon Party at George’s Majestic Lounge.

They will also be playing Nov 7 at Sticky Fingerz in Little Rock.

Founding members Paul Boatright, Eric Mills, Charlie Platt, and Kevin Blakely, will be joined by special guest Jeff Gray (from 1oz. Jig) on trumpet. According to the press release, fans from California, Austin, Oklahoma City, St. Louis, and Chicago have already purchased their tickets, and are making travel arrangements.

“It’s truly amazing that twelve years after my last show with Punkinhead, the music and the message still live on in the hearts and minds of our fans.” said Paul Boatright. “I’m deeply touched that our lyrics helped shape the character of those people, and continue to help guide them in their lives so many years later. Punkinhead was truly a unique band, and one hell of a show. We’re all very excited to give our fans three unforgettable nights. Bring your best dancin’ shoes. You’re gonna’ need ‘em.”

Advance tickets for these shows are $10 for Green Door, $15 for George’s, and $10 for Sticky Fingerz. Call these numbers to order: Green Door 479-575-0111, George’s 479-442-4226, Sticky Fingerz 501-372-7707

Wow, very cool. I remember seeing them play in Fort Smith around 1996 to a practically empty venue. I don’t know if it was because of lack of advertising or what but people really missed out.. These guys are seriously good..

Reunion shows have a tendency to be either really cool, because of the energy and excitement, or really dreadful, because the chemistry isn’t there anymore.

Here’s hoping for the former.

They’ve been woodshedding. They’re going to blow the doors off that place.
