The Gypsy is back

Ever since the Dart Room closed a few months ago, we’ve been wondering if anyone was going to take advantage of one of the best live music building vacancies in town. Looks like John Dortch, the founding partner of The Gypsy on Dickson has jumped on this one as there’s a MySpace page for The Gypsy on College proclaiming just that.

We first learned of this over at Tuned In and earlier this afternoon, we snapped a photo of the building being painted.

From the venue’s MySpace blog:

After extensive interior remodeling, featuring a new bar, elevated booth seating, along with new sound and lighting, we are pleased to announce Saturday, November 1st as the opening night.

Set to appear as the first band to grace the new venue’s stage is Nashville’s Bonepony, who according to The Gypsy on College, “is hailed as one of the all time outstanding live shows to play at the former Gypsy.”

With brand new digs, plenty of “no tow trucks allowed” parking and some solid booking, this could be a great new alternative to Dickson Street. Congratulations and best of luck to Mr. Dortch and crew.

Sweet.

I would have skipped painting the ext.

I thought it looked pretty good as was. Still, happy to have a College Ave alt.

Sweet! Live music away from Dickson. Maybe this will be more of a “grown up” bar.

Heard music will be regular deal there.

Cousin Eddie is playing there this Saturday. Kind of a last minute deal, but the band had a last minute cancellation which opened them op to play this Saturday.

It will be good to have an alternative to Dickson Street, although you will not have the “walk by” crowd you have downtown. I like Cousin Eddie, so I will be there to enjoy the band and check out the new Gypsy.
