Razorbacks Squeak by SE Louisianna in OT
Michael Washington scored a career high 30 points to lead the Razorbacks to a hard fought victory in overtime Friday night in their season opener against SE Louisianna, 91-87.
The Razorbacks showed their inexperience early on, playing one-on-one basketball, with several players forcing bad shots early in the shot clock. The Razorbacks trailed by as many as 9 points late in the game before a late rally including a 3 point basket by freshman Rotnei Clarke, and a driving layup by freshman Courtney Fortson tied the game at 77-77, and forcing the overtime period.
Michael Washington took over in overtime, scoring seven straight points, and putting the game out of reach for the Lions.
Fortson scored 18 points in the game, and Rotnei Clarke added 17 including 5-8 shooting from 3 point range.
The Razorbacks showed a lot of toughness coming back from the 9 point deficit late in the game, but they’ll have to find a way to play as a team, and improve on defense if they expect to compete against the better teams on their non-conference schedule, and into SEC play. The estimated 12,000 fans in attendance at Walton Arena Friday night could be heard groaning multiple times after several bad shots, especially in the first half, by the young Razorbacks.
Next up for the Razorbacks is California-Davis on Thursday.
We’d better hope Pelphrey can make an impression on the young freshmen between now and then.

I have to say, I don’t think we deserved to win that game even though it was a hard fought ending. Also, congrats to Ted Dancin’ for getting his ugly mug on the “Jam Cam”. That was a true delight.

Man, that was close. The basketball season opener looked eerily similar to the football opener. I’m expecting many more nail-biters.
