The best show I’ve seen at Walton Arts Center was actually one of my favorite Fayetteville concerts of the year 2007. It was that Blues tour with Mavis Staples headlining, and North Mississippi Allstars played acoustic. NMAS were the backing band for the whole night. They did a killer cover of Bob Dylan’s “Masters Of War.” In the lobby at setbreak I overheard a young teen girl tell her Mom that she didn’t like any of the music, except that one song about standing-over-your-grave-til-you’re-dead. That was one of those great raw fancy Walton Arts Center lobby moments.

The best show I ever saw at the Walton Arts Center was Jason Maraz. My girlfriend (it was our first “date”) asked me last minute if I wanted to go because her sixteen year old cousin was not going to be unable to attend. I quickly came up with a couple of excuses becausae the little I knew about Jason Maraz, was that he was adored by young teenage girls and that didn’t sound like anyone I would want to go see. I really liked my girlfriend and wanted to spend time with her, so I agreed to go. The tickets were front row, dead center, in the balcony (my favorite seats to date). The opening band was great, the people sitting to our left and right were very friendly (and not young screaming teenage girls), and the show was amazing. Jason has some remarkable vocal skills, and he played a variety of songs that left the crowd asking for me as he walked off to a standing O. The engaging setting he created was impressive, and I was very happy that I took her up on her offer. We’re still together today, and I would gladly return the favor, by taking her to see the Punch Brothers on Saturday if I win the tickets.

Man, this is kind of off topic, but I did see Nickelcreek at Dave’s on Dickson a few years ago, and Chris Thile is an absolute rock star. Good luck, ya’ll. Whoever wins this one is in for a real treat.

Mavis Staples was incredible. It was in the solid blues series with the north mississipi allstars, who also played in her band after they opened with a set of their own. Mavis is a true legend!

David Sedaris! He has ruined me on reading his books because his voice and delivery add an extra depth to his stories. I always have to get his books on CD now.

I’ll go with Peter Pan just because my daughter enjoyed it so much. If she’s happy…I’m happy. Plus it was a really good production.

My favorite “show” at the WAC was a reading by David Sedaris. He flirted with me while he signed the inside of my book “I wish you were MY architect.”

The best show I’ve seen at the Walton Arts Center was just recently when Lyle Lovett and John Hiatt played. They are two of the best songwriters/performers and together, they were amazing.

The best show I have seen at Walton was the Pat Metheny Trio last summer, superb guitar work! Chris Thile would be something great to compare.

The only show I have seen there was West Side Story. By default that makes it the best.

I have seen several shows at the Walton Arts Center over the past years. The one I remember the most was “Cats”. It was incredible. My son was about 13 and went with me to the show. He is now 27 and still remembers the show and what a good time we had that night.
