Razorbacks Beat LSU(CK)

Les Miles has a difficult time pronouncing Arkansas. Lately, he hasn’t had much luck beating them either.

In arguably their best performance of the year, the Arkansas Razorback football team ended their season on a high note Friday when they beat LSU 31-30 on Casey Dick’s touchdown pass in the final minute of play to London Crawford.

It marks the end of a season in which Arkansas will finish 5-7, just outside of bowl eligibility, and right where many predicted they would finish, in last place in the SEC West. At least they went out with a bang.

It also marks the end of the Casey Dick era at Quarterback. Dick started games in all four years of his eligibility for the Razorbacks. He struggled mightily at times. He had some good games as well. None, though, will stand out in his memory more than Friday’s game against LSU, when Dick, benched for the first half of the game in favor of his younger brother Nathan, came on in the second half and played lights out. Dick was 18-29 for 197 yards and two touchdowns in only one half of play, and led the Razorbacks from a 16-point second half deficit to get the one point victory.

The game winner came on an incredibly gutsy fourth-and-one call with 22 seconds left in the game. Instead of going for the first down with a short yardage play, Bobby Petrino dialed up a go route. Casey Dick threw a perfect pass to London Crawford, and Crawford made a leaping catch in the end zone for the go ahead touchdown. LSU had a chance for the win as, as kicker Cold David missed a 63 yard field goal as time expired, and the one point win was sealed for the Razorbacks.

Now the Razorbacks have something to build on for next year. After a tough year where the Razorbacks lost several games by a field goal or less, Arkansas can take the momentum created by this win and carry it over to next season. Many of Arkansas’ contributers on both sides of the ball will be back next year. Arkansas has a top recruiting class shaping up so far, rated as high as 11th in the country by recruiting experts, as well as all-everything transfer quarterback Ryan Mallet set to make his Razorback debut next season.

And the best part is that the Razorbacks got the best of coach Les Miles and LSU for the second straight season.

You know, the guy who calls Arkansas “Ar-Kansas.” Hey Les- It’s pronounced ARKANSAS. With a capital ARKANSAS.

That was a great game. I’m happy for Casey Dick.
