Google Maps Street View arrives

Thanks to a tipster’s photos back in April, we knew Google Maps Street View was coming and it looks like it’s finally here.

A few weeks ago, we noticed a change over at Google Maps. All of a sudden a little yellow icon of a person greeted us at the top of the zoom tool. Of course, we didn’t bother clicking on it for some reason. Had we done so, we’d have known a lot sooner that Google Maps Street View was already here.

Wanna try it out? How about starting on Dickson street? Go ahead. Try it!

If you’re not familiar with Street View, once you’ve clicked (or dragged) the little yellow icon, you’re put into a new view that lets you explore everything from street level. It’s not just photos, either. You can drag your mouse around and see a full 360 view of everything. You can even click the little white arrows that pop up and navigate around as if you were walking down the street. It’s both cool and kinda creepy at the same time.

So who already knew about this? How late are we to the game? Better yet, when do you think these photos were taken?

Hey, here’s an idea. How about sharing your interesting finds with everyone here in the comments section? After you find something cool, click the blue “Link” button and copy-n-paste the first link that pops up. Then head over to TinyURL.com to shorten the incredibly long URL up into a nice, well, tiny URL. Then share it with us.

Here. I’ll go first. Check this out: tinyurl.com/6a54ac

Tight! Anyone see a car with cameras mounted on the roof driving around lately?

Hah! My house is on there and the outside is halfway re-painted so that tells me they took the picture while I was painting it this summer!

Oh here’s a goodie. In this one, Chick-fil-A on 6th St hadn’t been finished yet but in this oneright next to it, it is! Weird? Yes.

This occupied my last hour of work today. Here’s one. Apparently there is a Old Farmington road that runs right through the McDonald’s parking lot.

One minute, Taco Bell is there (and burned). And then magically it disappears. But wait, it’s back!

First person to find themselves walking down the street, in their office window, etc wins.

I spotted a Mormon! http://bit.ly/gI44

Yeah, that’s not really interesting.

Thanks for the tip, I hadn’t realized this was live here. I always thought it was a bit queer that most (including no where) of central Arkansas had been street-viewed. I wonder if there’s some Google branch in LR. You know, aside from “Oogles and Googles
