Hogs Take the Demons to Church
If there’s one thing crazier than being “taken to school” by an opponent, then the Demons of Northwestern State definitely know what that is after getting walloped by the Razorbacks Saturday night 95-56.
The Hogs press smothered the Demons, forcing them into 28 turnovers on the night, and Stefan Welsh had the best game of his career as a Razorback scoring 27 points on 8 of 13 shooting, including 6-8 from 3 point range to lead the Razorbacks to victory.
Freshman Courtney Fortson added 18 points and 9 assists for the Razorbacks, Marcus Britt added 15 points, and every player on the Razorback bench logged some action in the game that got out of hand early, and stayed that way.
The Hogs are looking really good heading into the toughest stretch of their season, as #4 Oklahoma heads to town next week, followed by North Texas in Little Rock, and then #9 Texas comes to Walton arena on January 6th. Following the Texas game, the Hogs will have their regular tough SEC schedule to contend with.
But the Hogs, at least to date, have been impressive compiling a 9-1 record thus far on the season, and seem like anything but the last place in the SEC team that many picked them to be coming into the season.
We’ll know a lot more about this young Razorback team in a couple of weeks, but they sure look good right now.

This was the first game I’ve been able to catch (living in kc REALLY sucks for SEC-viewing). My thoughts:
* Fortson is a force — not only with his skills but also is play-making decisions. He’s going to be very good, but he’s also going to try and make things happen out of nothing.
* Clarke had a bad shooting night, but all the reports I’ve read about him were 100% accurate — the kid can play and his bball IQ is off the charts. I’m excited about 4 years with him around.
* Washington is hurt and it’s obvious. He didn’t play THAT well yesterday, but he did some impressive things with his bad back. I’m scared to see what happens to him in the SEC.
* Welsh has been a pleasant surprise as of late — since when did he shoot the long ball with such confidence? My worry is that those two nights were flukes and his shot numbers will increase to try and make up the difference.
* Monk should be a regular contributor here before too long. While bball hasn’t been on his mind for a while, he’s a legit athlete and should fit in nicely for us.
* Moore, Clark, Sanchez — Right now, they’re the definition of hustle. Any coach would love to have them on the court as a role player. The SEC will show us what kind of true player each one really is.
Overall, I’m happy with where we’re at right now. We’ve beaten some semi-quality teams and struggled at times that, while not expected, in reality, SHOULD be expected. Two of our next three games are some of the hardest we’ll play all year and if we hold our own against these quality opponents, then I’m fairly certain we won’t finish near the bottom in SEC play.
Exciting times. Let’s just hope Kentucky does well enough this year, I want Pel for a few more seasons.

Fortson is unhuman.
