$5 Cover Trailer is now available online

A few months ago, we did an interview with Luther Dickinson of the Black Crowes and the North Mississippi Allstars, and we talked a little bit about Craig Brewer’s new project called $5 Cover.

It’s an online only series that will begin in March, and could be ridiculous, but the trailer looks promising.

The premise of the show is to take real live members of the Memphis music scene, put them in scripted situations, mix in a few real actors and see what happens. In other words, if you take the MTV series the Hills, subtract all the dumb chicks, add an acclaimed director and “Hustle and Flow” creator in Craig Brewer, and a bunch of real Memphis musicians like Lucero frontman Ben Nichols, Al Kapone, Cody Dickinson, the River City Tanlines, Jack Oblivian, and Harlan T. Bobo, you’ll get $5 cover.

It could be awesome, and it could be a train wreck, but the trailer is available online now, so see for yourself. I apologize in advance for whatever ad you are subjected to whenever you click to watch the trailer. That wasn’t our idea.

Looks awesome! Kinda like Austin Stories (best MTV show ever), but with live music performances.

The trailer definitely makes me want to check it out.

I’m glad I’m not the only one who remembers Austin Stories. I saw Howard Kremer who played the character named “Howard” on that show at the Union. He opened up for Brian Posehn and Hard ‘n Phirm. He goes by the name of Dragon Boy Suede now he’s a funny guy
