Inauguration Day 2009

As the world prepares for the inauguration of Barack Obama, many of us are stuck at work and will miss most (if not all) of today’s ceremonial events.

If you’re fortunate enough to be able to watch and don’t want to stay at home, there are a couple of official watch parties taking place this morning.

The Fayetteville Public Library is hosting its Inauguration Day Watch Party from 10am to 1:30pm. If you’re on campus and can’t make it to the FPL, the University of Arkansas Union (Connections Lounge) will be broadcasting the ceremony from 10am to 2pm.

For those of you whose bosses won’t chill out and drag in a television, you can still keep track of things. There are loads of people attempting a liveblogging of today’s happenings.

Most notably, Arkansas’ own Blake Rutherford is on the scene and is updating both his Twitter feed and his website, Blake’s Think Tank with tons of accounts of what he’s seeing/hearing and also plenty of photos.

Rep. Steve Harrelson is also at the Capitol this morning with the same intentions.

For anyone wanting to celebrate after work, MoveOn.org is sponsoring an Inaugural Bash at U.S. Pizza on Dickson Street this evening at 7pm.

Of course as mentioned yesterday, the Fayetteville chapter of Drinking Liberally along with the UA Young Democrats will host a get-together at On the Rocks on West Avenue from 7:00-10:00 pm.

Finally, KXUA’s Daniel Gold is hosting “Honest Tunes for the new President’s first night: The Inauguration of President Barack Obama” starting at 8pm tonight. Gold is calling the show “a collection of songs of hope for the world, music of change for the listeners, as Barack Obama becomes President of the United States on this historic day.”

How are you spending the day? Stuck at work? Got the day off?
