Coming Soon: Sunrise Donuts

Cream buns and doughnuts and fruitcake with no nuts,
So good you could go nuts!
-Veruca Salt, Wonka

Fayetteville’s getting a new donut shop to join our meager selection. Besides Royal, Daylight and Rick’s Bakery there aren’t a whole lot of options.

But that will change next week.

The owners of the Sunrise Café on Garland reported that they wanted to try something new. Owning the property next door, they’re turning Lucky Luke’s BBQ into Sunrise Donuts. It opens next week.

Hours will likely be 6:00AM to 2:00PM.

And there’s definitely a market for donuts in this town. With all the college kids eating crap food (I’m one of ‘em!) another shop with low-cost tasty sweets is welcome.

The owners expressed amazement at all the ingredients required to make fresh donuts (about half a semi-truck). And yes, sweetheart, they will be fresh!

Anybody have a particular favorite donut place in town? Anyone absolutely hate donuts?

This would appear as a most auspicious debut post from Voice of Schleuss on Fayetteville Flyer. New writer here? Noticed he twittered about Tony.

Donuts, thy name is Rick’s Bakery.

Rick’s will be hard (impossible) to top.

New writer, indeed. Two, in fact.

I was sad to see Daylight Donuts close on Garland, so I’m excited for this one. If they have a hot light, I’ll truly be in heaven.

By reed on January 22nd, 2009

Is there a Daylight here anymore? I thought the one on Garland was the only one.

By Total Bastard on January 22nd, 2009

I don’t hate donuts, but considering I’m gluten intolerant and need to lose 20 lbs, I can’t have them.

God’s way of punishing me for being such an ****…

By sofresh-n-sogay on January 22nd, 2009

hoping for interesting flavors, ala voodoo donuts killer mango donut.

Tony Catroppa is also rumored to be the next sidewalk vendor on Dickson. His pushcart will allegedly be set up to vend dollar “hamburgers” made of “hamburger meat,” watered-down Bud Light, jello shooters, and 10-second glimpses of a live female human tit.

I agree with Sarah Fortune…. Sorely miss Daylight Donuts on Garland. They were the best. Patronized them for decades (and the waist line shows!) lol

Hopefully Sunrise will do well….

We need another one on 71 B maybe on the southside of town…. the grocery store donuts suck…

By THE MANIMAL on January 22nd, 2009

Is the daylight donuts on mission and crossover (on the NE corner with the BP) still open?

those dollar “hamburgers” from “college inn” were made out of lips and squeel

I live close to this but still don’t see myself going there. I don’t trust anything Tony C touches… I haven’t even really thought of trying Sunrise Cafe and it has been there for a while now.

You folks care more about donuts than the local music scene??? Dozen posts for donuts + – none for music. You are addicted and spoiled. Ricks will be hard to beat, but the new place will be closer to my favorite FAY destination.
Hope the donuts are better than the Sunrise coffee.

By Scott Stapp of Creed on January 23rd, 2009

Um have you even ever had a donut? They are sweet on the tongue and make your belly feel pleasant and peaceful. Music is a bunch of abstract bull**** for posers to stand around and watch while they’re secretly thinking about how they hope people will notice their cool new haircut.

I wish Fayetteville would open a freaking spudnut shoppe!!!!!!!!! Damn!

By Jon Schleuss on January 24th, 2009

@bloodweiser I think you found a calling. Open soon and I’ll be your first customer.

According to my donut hunt today: No more Daylight in Fayetteville (closest to me was Elkins) and we are now officially plus one Tony C establishment. Haven’t checked it out yet though.

We tried their donuts on opening day. They were all different sizes (they’re still trying to get a hang of it), but they were actually quite good! I just hope they get some orange juice soon. All they had was Best Choice orange SODA.

I grew up on real donuts! The one on garland was my families. I tried the Sunrise donuts. I was anticipating a decent product given the fact they use a decent quality donut flour (omni paradise). But found they touched the donuts bare handed. Inconsistent size and cooked to diff. colors. taste was meager because you almost cant have a bad donut. Cake was no good at all. Business wise I found them lacking in the essential knowledge of good standards and proper donut taste. On a diff. note Spudnuts have gone from 500 stores to 32. All donuts have some potato flour. they just marketed it well to be known. Presently not well enough. Paradise or Irish made would be as closes as you will get, Fort Smith area. The Daylight on Crossover is open. And Rick’s bakery is more like a grocery donut than a Donut shop. To much like a bread roll than a fluffy donut. Daylight is king in this neck of the woods. Just a business fact. Crazy flavored donuts although tasty are hared to sell for breakfast and this area isn’t big enough for an all day donut. I use to make a Double dipped Devils food donut that would make you cry. HOT or Cold! it didn’t sell, took it off my menu. The peanut butter donuts were worth anyone’s first born but not worth the lame looks on the early risers face, upon mentioning it. When Fayetteville gets big Enough to handle an all day shop. I will be the first to be there. Sunrise good luck and welcome to the area! Keep it Fresh and CLEAN!!!
