President Obama declares Arkansas a disaster zone

January 29, 2009 10:42 am · By Dustin · 8 Comments

Late last night, President Barack Obama declared the state of Arkansas a federal disaster zone, his first such declaration since becoming president.

The White House issued the announcement last night around 11 pm after speaking with Arkansas governor Mike Beebe. Obama approved Beebe’s request for federal aid, and signed it immediately after their phone conversation.

Just how much aid the state of Arkansas will get is unclear at this time, but hopefully that comes with some extra electrical workers to help restore power to over 150,000 households in Arkansas that are still without electricity.

I hope you guys are staying warm out there.

Todd:

Thanks. Here’s a tidbit that I’d like to know. Should we be piling all this sh*t at the curb? Or should we be taking it out back to burn it?

It would help people get started.

Thanks.

If you place fallen limbs at the curb, they will be collected by the city. Please cut them into manageable sized chunks, and be patient, because it may take a few weeks or even longer.

Thanks Matthew. Now I will spread the word in my hood. Nobody knows what to do as we still do not have power.

Our street just received power after four days in the dark
Looks as if the ice has melted 99% off of everything.
some lines are still down and trees are everywhere.
