Restaurant Week Contest: A day on Dickson
Dickson Street. It is the undeniable cultural center of Fayetteville. The bars, restaurants, and businesses that line it on both sides make up a huge part of what we all identify with about Fayetteville. It is the center of the entertainment district, the best place to catch a live band or a show at the Walton Arts Center, the place to grab a drink with friends and relax after a tough week of work while at the same time see some dudes with signs warning you about how said drink will effect your position in the afterlife.
It’s the only place in town where you can get a late night hot dog on one side of the street and a Veal Saltimbocca and a Cremini Mushroom Demi Glace on the other.
In short, it’s awesome.
There are so many great restaurants on Dickson Street and we’re nearing the end of Restaurant week, so we thought we’d put together a grand prize of sorts. We’ve done a lot of giving away stuff on the Flyer this week and the winner of this contest is gonna be a pretty popular person with all this free food to share. We’re giving away a whole day on Dickson Street at three restaurants, so you could potentially have breakfast, lunch, and dinner (and a few drinks in between if that’s your thing) without ever leaving the heart of the city.
The winner of this contest gets a $50 gift certificate to either Common Grounds or Hog Haus (breakfast/brunch/lunch), 4 free burritos from Qdoba (Lunch, Afternoon Snack) and $50 to Bordino’s for dinner.
How to enter: Tell us about your favorite meal from any Dickson Street restaurant in the comments. Pretty easy, right?
A few rules (read ‘em carefully):
1. You may only enter this specific contest once. If you enter this contest more than once you’ll be automatically disqualified.
2. This contest is open to anyone anywhere except Fayetteville Flyer writers and their immediate family members.
3. Contest is open until 11:59pm CST on Saturday, February 7th, 2009.
4. Make sure you leave a valid e-mail address when filling out the comment form since that’s how we’ll contact you if you’ve won.
5. You’ll have to provide us with your first and last name, and mailing address if you win. Then, we’ll mail you the gift certificates.
Good luck. For more info on Restaurant Week, visit the Dine in Fayetteville site, and check out more reviews, contests, etc here on the Flyer.

My fave is the pork tenderloin stuffed with apples and served with garlic mashed potatoes and fresh green beans at Bordinos. I’m in food heaven after I eat that.

I loooooooove the chicken with truffle sauce, spinach, and fingerling potatoes at Bordino’s. That truffle sauce is melt-in-your-mouth delicious!

After a long week (or a rough night) nothing makes me feel better than brunch at Emelia’s. Crab cake eggs benedict, blueberry pancakes and fresh coffee and OJ (kahlua and champagne optional). Everything is made fresh and the restaurant is cozy and quite… perfect for a Sunday brunch!

I’m a simple guy. Naked burritos from Qdoba put a big smile on my face.
PS: All of these contests are really awesome, and local businesses are great for doing it. Thanks Everyone!

I’m a simple girl. I love the Fajitas at Jose’s! Top them off with a swirl margarita, a live band on the patio, and good friends, and you have a fantastic evening!

Anyone else fondly remembering Widespread Bagel? This restaurant on Dickson Street was located about where the husk of Rice Village currently sits.
My all-time most memorable meal so far in Fayetteville was probably late-night toasted bagels and tea at Widespread Bagel with Michael Houser, Todd Nance, and Dave Schools – members of the band Widespread Panic. When WSP came to town to play at UA in 1997, the band members visited the bagel shop that was named after their band. I was in town for the show. At that time I was the editor of Honest Tune magazine’s concert-flyer called the Drivin’ Flyer. It was a print flyer passed out for free at concerts with recent setlists, upcoming tourdates, and other info useful in those days when the internet didn’t have as much penetration. I ran an ad for Widespread Bagel and distributed the flyer in the Panic parking lot on campus. With that, I was invited to hang out with the proprietors of Widespread Bagel and her guests for after show snacks: Widespread Panic! It was awesome.
To this day I still go out on Dickson all the time, and there’s great restaurants and plenty of cool places, but no place could be as cool as Widespread Bagel. That place was really a high mark of how jamming Fayetteville can be.

My favorite Dickson St meal is any fish fillet, pan-sauted by Peter at the 36 Club. It’s a perfect meal if it also comes with his sauted spinach and a caesar salad.
By Jessy Lang on February 5th, 2009
I always enjoy the rolls at Wasabi – the Crunchy Munch roll is one of my favorites!
By sofresh-n-sogay on February 5th, 2009
continuing my cheap bastard theme and general motivation for entering any contest, I’d go with Cosmo’s Classic Plate w/ rice. Cheap, good, and I always have leftovers for lunch. The red pepper hummus is yum too.
By Lubsy on February 5th, 2009
I loooove a good burger at Grubs! Or some nachos at Jose’s. Doesn’t take much to please me. :-)
Thanks for the great contest, guys!
By Kristin on February 5th, 2009
Easily the Crunchy Mango roll at Wasabi. It is the priciest roll on the menu, I think, but it is worth it!
By Total Bastard on February 5th, 2009
Doe’s t-bone, rare, with those incredible mushrooms and fried bread.
A close second is a vegetarian burrito from Qdoba.
By pat dallas on February 5th, 2009
Haven’t been to the 1936 in a long time, but the plate lunches at the old D’Lux were a staple back in the ’80s — when I could resist a burger there.
By Corbin on February 5th, 2009
I like beef panang curry at Bangkok Cusine. Don’t eat on Dickson often on my budget.
By christine on February 5th, 2009
The falafels at kosmos make me a happy girl.
By Tim on February 5th, 2009
I love the beef tenderloin with gorgonzola butter and garlic mashed potatoes at Bordinos. So good!
By bryce on February 5th, 2009
Wild Boar Sausage Fettucini from Bordino’s. De-Lish.

Doe’s Eat Place always offers a great steak meal. My favorite is a steak fillet cooked medium rare. Yum!!!
By MAGGIE on February 5th, 2009
My favorite food is either the veggie kosmos wrap or a burrito from Qdoba. Or maybe hog house’s cheese dip.
By MAGGIE on February 5th, 2009
a contest between: hog house cheese dip, kosmos veggie wrap, or a qudoba burrito….all delicious
By Laura on February 5th, 2009
Pretty much anything from Kosmos is a winner, same with Wasabi. God now I want sushi. Mmmm.
By IncreasethePeace on February 5th, 2009
I’ll take some falafel and hummus from Kosmos anyday.
By Lankford on February 6th, 2009
I’m with Bryce. Wild boar sausage fettucini at Bordino’s is probably my favorite too. It’s hard to pick one thing though. So much goodness on Dickson!
Thanks for all the contests guys! This is great!
By Beemerphile on February 6th, 2009
Enchiladas at Jose’s with Effron White playing on the patio is goin’ loco bein’ local.
By Rynnedog on February 6th, 2009
I LOVE the springtime on Dickson, patio at US Pizza with cold drinks and a BIG pizza with ranch dressing.
By jesse on February 6th, 2009
Bordino’s . . . meh. 1936 Club . . . yeah. Hard to pick a best as the menu’s always changing. It’s the only place I eat pasta, though.
By OhDannyBoy on February 6th, 2009
Doe’s ribeye is my favorite, but the beer cheeseburger at Hog Haus would be a close 2nd.
By George on February 6th, 2009
Does Theo’s count? It’s kind of on Dickson. I started out with an outstanding carpaccio and followed up with a med rare filet. Yummy! It’s hard to argue with a Doe’s steak also.
By reed on February 6th, 2009
When I have an hour+ to spend on lunch, it is at Bangkok. I’m glad they’ve yet to close their doors despite the frequent lack of crowd, because they are definitely the unsung heroes on the Fayetteville Thai food circuit.
By Kyle on February 6th, 2009
I haven’t ate at any restaurant on Dickson ST yet :(
By jawikst on February 6th, 2009
When eating on Dickson, I like the sampler appetizer platter from Emelia’s with grape leaves, tabouli, hummus and baba ghanoush. A delish meal in itself!
When eating on 6th street, I like the new Chick Fil A.
By P-Dub on February 6th, 2009
Oh, man. The greek burger at Kosmos is heavenly.
Honorable mention to the burger at the D-Lux. R.I.P.
By Toni A. on February 6th, 2009
I love the crab cakes at Bordinos!! They are awesome! I enjoy a Chocolate Martini with it….. I always love dining there.
By Brian on February 6th, 2009
It is hard to beat the Beer CheeseBurger at Hog Haus. Beer. And cheese. How can you go wrong?
By ccielo on February 6th, 2009
the vito on wheat, easy on the mayo, around 2:10 am on a weeknight. pure and simple.
By ARKinOK on February 6th, 2009
I know I don’t count and The Catfish Hole doesn’t either, but me and Gomer and Goober agree, we would shoot each other for the last Hushpuppy!!
