To-Do (Fat) Tuesday: 2/24/09

When I say “Easter,” you say “Bunny!”

When I say “Valentines,” you say “Love!”

When I say “Mardi Gras,” you say … “Dickson Street?”

Heck, why not? Dickson Street!

It’s no N’awlins, that’s for sure. But if you can’t get that far south on a Tuesday and be back to work at 8am tomorrow morning, Dickson Street is certainly the next best thing. Well, sorta.

Unless something has changed, the street will be blocked off and people will be partying like it’s 1999. Heck, you might even see a boob or two before that crazy lady gets hauled off to the pokey.

If you wanna get started early, you could catch the Razorback baseball team as they take on Kansas
at 3pm in Baum Stadium. If you wanna save money, sit in the outfield and BYOB.

Afterwards, eat a burger or something and then head to Bourbon Dickson Street and get ready to get weird.

Starting on the West side, the UARK Ballroom is hosting a Fat Tuesday Party with “the most intense Lighting Show and Visuals in AR!” On the bill are Nightsweats, J. Wail, Spiff & Sterling and Hardaway and the Commoners.

Across the street at George’s is the Randy Rogers Band with special guests Jonathon Tyler & Northern Lights and Sean McConnel.

Moving East, Zooloo’s gets its annual opportunity to be the ultimate Mardi Gras bar as they host a Fat Tuesday Celebration complete with beads, masks and a friggin’ Zydeco band. If you can get there around the time the Demented Krewe ends their pub crawl there, make sure you have your camera ready? Why? I have no idea. Just do it.

Smoke & Barrel Tavern is celebrating the night with Shannon Wurst and Bayard, both of 3 Penny Acre. Awesome? Yes.

In a rare-but-sweet move, the Boom Boom Room is having a weekday show featuring Indiana & The Byrds and Earth Society.

To top it all off (and if you really wanna set the mood), make sure the boombox you’re carrying the whole time is blasting the Honest FM Fat Tuesday Show with DGold on KXUA which starts at 6pm and
features Mardi Gras themed music for 4 hours straight including a live set with members of locals 1 Oz. Jig.

Who’s ready?
