Weekend: Mar 13, 14, 15
OK, so Dustin was busy this morning which means I had to step in and do the weekend post. Two words: Holy freaking crap.
Finding all this stuff, listing it, linking it and opining on it is no easy task. But what do you care? That’s our job, right? That’s why you come here. Get on with it, won’t we? Yes we will.
Tonight is big. If you’re at all interested in design, check out Margo Chase at Dickson Theater. After that, it’s time to get down.
And by “get down” I mean dance. And by “dance” I mean throw-down-jump-around-bounce-your-face-off. Literally. Where can you do this? At Scarpino’s, yo. It’s Beat Bachs‘ birthday which means another gigantic dance party featuring he and fellow DJs Luminfire and Tanner Beam. With $2 domestic drafts, $3 wells and $4 select wines, tonight’s gonna get silly. To top it off, the Fayetteville Flyer will be taking photos for Flyer Faces. Come get internet-famous.
Tomorrow is also huge. Lots of shows. Lots of funs. I’ll be trying to bounce back and forth between Dickson Street and College Avenue. Why? Because Hardaway & the Commoners are playing with Hosta and Very Special Guest at George’s and Omi-Palone, Honky-Horn and A+ Setup are at Cheers. Shows at Cheers apparently equals awesome so I’m in.
For a full list of what’s happening this weekend, keep reading. The rest is directly below this sentence!

There are also DJs at Scarpino’s on Saturday night, this time with a industrial/goth/steampunk spin.

Pencils = Smurfy.
I wish they’d write a song titled “Taco Bell From Last Night”.

Their sound is best described as The Polyphonic Spree making sweet, sweet love to the Pixies in an echoey loft apartment while a boombox under a pile of dirty clothes plays a mixtape of Beach Boys and the Doors.
In short, pretty awesome.
Janet Reno is a solid tune. I really like the Doorsy sound of it.
Bored by Beacons starts promising but goes nowhere. I suggest surf-guitaring it up a little bit, and I’m dead serious. There are Hawaiian/surf elements in there and thats the best part of the song.
Overall I really dig a lot of the 60s influenced elements, and although the mumbledy-jumbledy vocal style is a part of the sneak-up-on-you with awesomeness appeal of the band’s sound, I’d suggest bringing out the vocals at least a little more so we can get it more.
I really like the risk-taking style thats apparent in the music.

I saw the Family Dogs too, and although American Princes were past my bedtime, I was honestly blown away by the talent on display by both bands.
Fayetteville, mf-ing Arkansas has an awesome music scene, y’all. That or I am losing my mind. Probably both. Seriously I am pretty shocked at the quality of music this town is making right now.

I officially hate Scarpino’s (more) after last night.

Now i really wish i had bought that beer, bastard
Quite nice to see you getting so verbose over something less…frothy.

I’m predisposed to despising that place ever since I was planning my wedding reception and the first thing the owner asked was, “Have you looked at our prices?” They were just buttinskies at the party and were hasslin’ the b-day boy. The music was awesome, as was the cake. I think we oughtta claim that land for FayFlyer.

Are the MPs going to release a CD soon?
I got their little demo cd, but its not as crisp as the stuff on Myspace.
I listened to it this weekend working in my yard.
