A couple weeks ago, we were as shocked as the rest of you, and crazy-excited to announce that Dinosaur Jr. was heading to town for a April 17th show at George’s right here in Fayetteville.
Today, we’re even more excited to announce that we’ll be giving away 4 pairs of tickets to the show, which is exactly a week from today.
How to enter
Dinosaur Jr. pretty much ruled the 90′s, and they are also one of the few things that happened in that decade that still has some cred in the 2000′s. In general though, the 90′s were pretty weird.
This contest is inspired by those weird 90′s things, and there are two ways to enter.
- Leave a comment on this post reminding us of something from the 90′s that now seems completely ridiculous. MC Hammer, Hypercolor t-shirts, Umbro’s. Something like that. Entered.
- Include a link to a picture of yourself from the 90′s or e-mail us a picture to contact(at)fayettevilleflyer(dot)com, and that will get you entered two more times. It must be a real picture of you, and if it’s a fake, you suck. Fair warning/rule: You must tell us which comment was yours (if e-mailing) so we can add the photo to that comment and get you entered two more times.
In other words, a comment and a picture will get your name in the running three times, so you are encouraged to do both.
What you’ll win
You’ll get two tickets to the April 17th Dinosaur Jr. show at George’s Majestic Lounge. We have 4 pairs of tickets to give away, so your chances are good.
A few rules (read ‘em carefully):
- You may enter this specific contest twice, once with a comment, and the second time with a picture. The picture will get your name entered twice.
- This contest is open to anyone anywhere except Fayetteville Flyer writers, George’s Majestic Lounge employees and their immediate family members.
- Contest is open until 5:00pm CST on Wednesday, April 15th, 2009.
Make sure you leave a valid e-mail address when filling out the comment form since that’s how we’ll contact you if you’ve won - You’ll have to provide us with your first and last name (if you win) and then be prepared to show a valid photo ID when picking up your tickets.
Thanks to George’s Majestic Lounge for sponsoring this contest. For more information about this performance and to purchase tickets, visit George’s website or call 479-442-4226.

The World Wide Web. What was that thing all about?
Er, wearing the same nasty flannel shirt every day for a year? ;D
My favorite 90′s disaster? Grunge! Flannel on top of flannel on top of plaid old-man pants? Why did we think that was a good idea?
This is really me in the 90′s. I went through a heavy goth phase after grunge apparently, haha. I think Robert Smith was my fashion guru.
“the crow”
The soundtrack is pretty badass, still.

Fanny packs for sure;

and blonde, surfer hair cuts where the top was yellow and the sides were black (like zach morris from SBTB)

Overalls with only one strap connected!
Y2K… Ahhh, December 31, 1999 and the clock strikes midnight. Would we live to see the new millenium? We worried about it for years!
My hair cut was always a flat top with three racing stripes on the sides and it cost $5.
The right strap on my back pack did not exist in my world.
The Crow soundtrack was/still is good. I also liked the Judgment Night soundtrack; the grunge/metal/hip hop collaborations were fantastic.
Parodies of logos were huge in the 1990s (and still today). Can’t seem to find a photo of it, but the “DARE to keep cops off donuts” shirt comes to mind.
I never owned any Hammerpants, but I dated a girl that did. Here’s a link that always makes me laff:

Unzipped flies and cross-eyes. Total 90s. http://www.facebook.com/home.php#/photo.php?pid=30267308&id=1221643844
Playing Pogs and drinking Crystal Pepsi.
Rude Dog tshirts.
Kris Kross
the term ‘neo-hippy’ was highly ridiculous in the major media & early internet lingo, circa 1993, before the word jambands came into the common parlance.
1999 pic emailed…me & The Sabo getting ready to leave Fayetteville for a road trip to New Orleans for Widespread Panic Halloween, having produced the Machine Funk t-shirts & a Geocities webpage,

Dinosaur Jr. was certainly part of my soundtrack from the late 80’s as well

Lines shaved into eyebrows = only in the 90′s.
rolled up jeans with doc martins..oh so 90′s
Don’t act like ya’ll didn’t have some Zubas zebra print pants. I know I did! And the best thing is that you can still get them!!!

Big Johnson t-shirts, There were many differnt ones. Each one had a cartoon of a nerd holding something huge. I remember one that said Big Johnson Casino, “liqour up front, poker in the rear”
Oohhh yeah. Judgement Night soundtrack. Nice.
Best Thing of the ’90s = Beavis and Butthead (hands down really)
Worst Thing of the ’90′s = The tragic day Rob Pilatus died of an overdose. I don’t care if you lip-synced. I couldn’t help but dream of having your rock hard abs that girls would come from miles around to wash their panties on. (Honorable Mention = The Macarena)
I’m going to have to go with Hanson or rompers. Remember those? Or maybe I was the only one who wore them….
Power Rangers?
Them pump up Reeboks were pretty rad.
Also, Kris Kross and backwards clothes.
That “Dinosaurs” TV show.
NOT THE MAMA!

Lame from the 90′s…those terrible, horrible hair scrunchies! worst ever! and what may still be worse is that you can see them almost daily here in beautiful NWA.
Slap bracelets, pogs, tight rolled jeans, LA Gear, and TMNT. Not to mention the worst song ever…Rico Suave by Gerardo.
I’m not living in Fville at the moment, but I just want to throw Left Eye from TLC out there. The whole package. Whole damn thing.
T-BOZ and Chili OK with you? Do you have a problem with them too? Are you just jealous cause you wanted to date Andre Rison before you died of AIDS in an Atlanta house fire?
Glenn Danzig.
