Weekend May 29, 30, 31
It’s Friday, and that means it’s time to throw on the Footloose soundtrack, put on your dancin’ pants and your new Queensryche t-shirt and get weird, Fayetteville.
Getting weird has varying levels depending on the person. On “get weird” nights, I’ve been known to get up in the middle of the night, sleepwalk to the couch, and put on a pair of my wife’s dress pants.
More than once, I’ve mistaken the closet for the bathroom. Gross.
The weather is gonna be perfect, there’s plenty of cool stuff going on, and it’s pretty much the perfect weekend to get weird as far as we’re concerned. Do it.
Here’s a song from the Footloose soundtrack to get you in the mood.

Got it going? Feeling the beat? Good. Here’s what I’d do this weekend if I were you.
Tonight, go to the AMP. Ben Folds is playing, and from everything we’ve ever heard, it’s an incredible live show complete with orchestrated sing-a-longs to some of the catchiest songs ever.
If you haven’t checked out Rain or MacHomer at the Walton Arts Center don’t freak out. You’ve got a couple more chances this weekend.
The hardest working band in town, Cletus Got Shot will be at the Smoke and Barrel tonight with Honky Suckle.
Also tonight, there’s a huge show at George’s with FOS Project, Dreamfast, Jarris, the.radio.sky, Saturate, and Spoken, and Jesus Chrysler Supercar will be at the Gypsy on College. Can we stop calling it the Gypsy on College, and just call it the Gypsy now?
Tomorrow is Saturday, and it’s also still Spring and that means you should start your day at the Farmers Market. The weather tomorrow will be perfect for it.
Then, check out the solar boat races at Lake Fayetteville.
Saturday night, don’t forget about Fayetteville Poet Alice Pettway’s reading at Nightbird Books.
Tunes-wise, your best bets are getting funked up with the Fayetteville Funk Ensemble at George’s, checking out Guta at the Smoke and Barrel, or Genome Chomsky at the Gypsy.
That’s what we’d do. The full list of weekend activities is below, but if there’s a sweet monster truck rally, or a taco party at your house or something else that we need to know about, please feel free to share in the comments. Weekend!

I had a friend who would pass out early while we were hanging out at his place and we’d sit there and keep partying. More than once, he woke back up, went into the living room where we were and peed in the trash can before going back to bed. He never had recollection of this. It was… weird.
Tonight’s gonna be huge. Super pumped for Ben Folds. I’ll also catch Spoken and some of Cletus Got Shot if they’re playing late, which they always seem to do. I don’t mind that kind of night at all.
I’ll pass on the peeing in the closet, though.

KXUA is giving away Ben Folds tickets today, so if you still want some make sure to listen.

Does anyone know about opening bands for Ben Folds? The AMP website is kind of terrible. Also, any low-down on what the AMP is like? Can I smuggle in a water bottle?
By George on May 29th, 2009
@a. brown – The opening band “Rachel Unthank & The Winterset” is flippin’ awesome! All girl folk band from the UK. Can’t stop listening to them since I won the tix (thanks Double-F!). I’m actually more pumped about seeing them then Ben Folds now.
Security at the AMP is pretty light. U could probably smuggle in a severed head if u wanted.

can you buy tickets at the amp? without the fees?
By sofresh-n-sogay on May 29th, 2009
answered my own questions. Yes, and those turds still tack on the $4 per ticket fee.
