Mayor Jordan announces “We Can” food drive

June 1, 2009 10:55 pm · By Dustin · 4 Comments

Around the country, we’re starting to hear some encouraging news about the economy.

But times are still tough for a lot of people right now, even right here in Fayetteville.

Food banks have taken a hit in Northwest Arkansas due to decreasing donations, and an increasing amount of locals who need help. Today, Mayor Lioneld Jordan encouraged Fayetteville residents to do something about it.

Mayor Jordan is asking Fayetteville residents to donate canned goods to local food banks through a sustaining food drive called “With a Can We Can.”

Jordan is encouraging Fayetteville residents to pick up a can or two of non-perishable food each time they visit the grocery store. Residents can then drop the cans off at the Mayor’s table at the Farmer’s Market, area fire station on the first weekend each month, or any of the locations listed below.

We Can! Drop Off Locations:
City Hall
All City Fire Stations
PEG Building
Parks & Recreation Offices
Mayor’s table at Farmer’s Market on the Square on Saturday Mornings

Very cool idea to inspire the community to contribute together in another way to help hungry folks. I will donate canned goods, probably the City Hall drop-off method. My choices will be for natural and organic peanut butter, canned black beans. How about you?

Here is a video about some folks at a music festival who collected 13,000 pounds of canned goods, and built the Guiness World Records largest canned goods sculpture: ART THAT FEEDS, Conscious Alliance, and I believe these folks will be collecting donations at Wakarusa Festival again this year as well, so check this out (neat vid):

I would like to get involved in your project and as well get my whole company involved. If you could send me some information on how my company B.co 82 STB can help then we would be more then glad to put our man power to work. AirBorne
