Contest: Win tickets to the American Princes
There isn’t much more satisfying than walking into a rock show, ID in hand, waiting for the doorperson to ask for the cover, and being able to say with confidence, “I’m on the list.”
Especially if you’re not sleeping with anyone in the band.
On Saturday when the American Princes, Color Club, New Science Project and Jacob Enwood play at the Smoke and Barrel Tavern, four of you will be on the list. The guest list, that is. Party.
How to enter:
The America Princes are anything but a guilty pleasure. In fact, their album Other People was named album of the year by Magnet Magazine last year.
But that’s not very fun to talk about. It’s much funnier to hear about people’s guilty pleasures.
Are you a metal dude with a soft spot for Abba? An Abba fan with a soft spot for Cannibal Corpse? Is there really such a thing as an Abba fan?
The fine folks at the Smoke and Barrel want to know what your musical guilty pleasure is. We’ll randomly select four winners, but our favorite entry will net you two more chances to win.
What you’ll win:
You’ll get a spot on the guest list at the June 6th American Princes, Color Club, New Science Projects, and Jacob Enwood show at the Smoke and Barrel.
A few rules (read ‘em carefully):
- You may only enter this specific contest once.
- This contest is open to anyone anywhere except Fayetteville Flyer writers, Smoke and Barrel staff and their immediate family members.
- Contest is open until 5:00 pm CST on Thursday, June 4th, 2009.
- Make sure you leave a valid e-mail address when filling out the comment form since that’s how we’ll contact you if you’ve won.
- You’ll have to provide us with your first and last name (if you win) and then be prepared to show a valid photo ID at the door.
Thanks to the Smoke and Barrel Tavern for sponsoring this contest.
THIS CONTEST IS NOW CLOSED.

I like doing interpretive dance to Billy Ocean songs in my house…

Whoa. That’s pretty guilty.

I don’t speak Spanish and can understand very little of it, but I love listening to 95.7 La Zeta in my car. I’ve even learned some of the more popular songs they play. Sometimes I sing along with my own lyrics.
Another guilty pleasure of mine is to sing to people in other cars while sitting next to them at stoplights. I might do a little dancing as well. Some people get angry for some reason, but most of the time people will stare straight ahead and ignore me. Every so often, someone will dance and sing with me and it makes my day.

Oh my God. Lady Gaga. Her songs get stuck in my head, and they are so damn catchy. Pah-pah-pah-poker face!

If I still had the first Spice Girls album, I would listen to it.
Damn, I’m not even eligible.
New Science Projects (a guy named Dale) has played the Dinosaur House a few times, and he’s spectacular to watch. Don’t sit too close to the stage. This show is going to be epic.

@Kyle – That’s messed up man.
Hmmm. Does Tori Amos count as a GP for a dude? I have been totally obsessed with her for years.
NOTE – Please don’t enter me. I’ll be at Waka. (that’s what she said)

Where is the guilt in listening to music?
I guess if I got off while listening to some neo-nazi goregrind I might feel a wee bit guilty.

I enjoy My Super Sweet Sixteen on both an ironic and a non-ironic level.

Justin timberlake. It’s bad

Not an entry, as I cannot attend, but: El Gato’s Rhythm Orchestra. They do fine cha-cha versions of “Dance of the Hours”, “Swanee River”, and “Hello, Dolly”. And some other stuff.
Herb Alpert and the Tijuana Brass also pleases me.
Wayne King is a guilty displeasure.

the only pleasure I really feel guilty about is watching television…especially Bravo. I will watch anything, no matter how awful, on Bravo.

My guilty pleasure is any trashy housewives show on Bravo! Something about their whiny high pitched voices gets to me. I can’t get enough if it. I don’t care if the dude hates it, I watch it even though I get a headache!

I would have to say, Tom Jones singing “What’s new pussycat”, gets me everytime.

Guilty pleasures, huh? Well…I suppose I could speak frankly here…
I enjoy playing the role of a 13 year old girl in chat rooms who’s curious and just a little flirty…
Then when things get sexual (as they always do), I drop this:

It is immensely entertaining, but very, very immature.

Lily Allen, especially (riding the bike in the skirt) on her first album, is a bit of a guilty pleasure 8-)
By Me on June 3rd, 2009
Oh gosh, Lily Allen in general… I don’t know what it is about her (she isn’t even THAT hot), but she is such a guilty pleasure. Internet radio just had to introduce me to something I could never buy or listen to with anyone knowing!
By Dgold on June 3rd, 2009
I know right! I first turned on to Lily from her lovely pink website with streaming free tunes. Later bought both her CD’s, the first is better.
I have to withdraw from the Princes contest tho, I’ll be down at Wakarusa Festival on Saturday night. Have fun in Fayetteville.

I love the soundtrack to “Once More with Feeling” (the musical episode of Buffy the Vampire Slayer). This is just between us…right, FF?

Those damn late night drives to Taco Bell after a good night of drinkin… why did they have to make those gorditos so freak’n good!!!
