THIS CONTEST IS NOW CLOSED

If you were you one of the 10,000 or so people that ventured down to Mulberry Mountain for Wakarusa this year, you know what an awesome venue it is for a festival.

In a few weeks there’s another party going on down there with some of the same great bands that were in town for Wakarusa, and we’ve got our hands on six tickets (three pair) to give away. Party.

The Mulberry Mountain Harvest Music Festival starts on August 12th and runs through the 15th.
There are over 65 bands scheduled to play the three-day music festival including the Nitty Gritty Dirt Band, the Avett Brothers, Umphrees McGee, Railroad Earth, and tons more.

The Mulberry Mountain site also has some of the best camping and hiking that Arkansas has to offer. Bonus.

How to enter
Head over to the Mulberry Mountain Harvest Fest site and take a look at the entire 2009 lineup. Then come back here and leave a comment telling us who you wanna see most and why. That’s it!

What you’ll win
You’ll get two three day festival and camping passes to The Mulberry Mountain Music Festival on Mulberry Mountain near Ozark, Arkansas. If you win, we’ll forward your name to the crew and you can pick up your tickets at Will Call on August 12th

The rules (read ‘em up):

  1. Feel free to comment all you want but you’ll only be entered once. Cool?
  2. This contest is open to anyone anywhere except Fayetteville Flyer writers and their immediate family members.
  3. This contest is open until 5:00pm CST on Wednesday, July 29th, 2009.
  4. Make sure you leave a valid e-mail address when filling out the comment form since that’s how we’ll contact you if you’ve won.
  5. You’ll have to provide us with your first and last name (if you win) and then be prepared to show a valid photo ID when picking up your tickets.

Thanks to Mulberry Mountain Harvest Music Festival for sponsoring this contest. For more information about the festival and to purchase tickets, visit the Mulberry Mountain Harvest Music Fest website.

The Nitty Gritty Dirt Band for real. Mostly because Steve Martin toured with them back in the day.

I also want to see Big Smith. The shows just aren’t the same at George’s now. I miss the Chester’s weekends. Maybe the festival will change things for me.

By Infidel on July 13th, 2009

Also, just to be an ass, Avett brothers is with an “e”, not an “i”. Sorry. I love you guys.

By Boyd Logan on July 13th, 2009

Hard to choose, but I’ll go with Umphrey’s McGee. I confess, I was once a huge jam band fan and most of my friends still are. Most of them are in agreement that Umphrey’s is currently at the top of the jam game, and I’ve never seen them. As such, I feel obligated to check them out.

By Zaff on July 13th, 2009

Eckobase. Why?
1. The are sweet
2. They blew my mind at Georges a few months ago
3. I know a few of the members
4. I want to get their name out there as one of the lesser known bands that need to be checked out.
5. I like to party

By Dustin on July 13th, 2009

@Infidel Son of a… (thanks. fixed) Also, agreed on Nitty Gritty Dirt Band. Those guys rule.

By Boggy Creek Creature on July 13th, 2009

Squirrel Nut Zippers!

Some of the best moments in my life had their music as the soundtrack.
And their live show is one of the best i’ve ever attended. Not just from the band, but from the wildly enthusiastic crowd.

And i’ll hoot and holler for cletus as well.

By Milky on July 13th, 2009

I really, REALLY want to see Split Lip Rayfield!

By hogsbreath on July 13th, 2009

Avett Brothers. That was easy.

By djstorms on July 13th, 2009

Railroad Earth!! I missed them at Wakarusa because I had to work on Friday and did not get through all of the checkpoints in time to see them. I heard they were amazing. Avett Brothers are going to be pretty awesome as well.

By Amy Michaud on July 13th, 2009

I want to see Three Penny Acre – love me a band that wins in the “None of the Above” category (for Concrete and Clay).

By The Truth on July 13th, 2009

Please disregard my entry. I have tickets already. But…

The Avetts. Without question.

By kasey on July 13th, 2009

William Elliott Whitmore! Saw him here in fayetteville a long time ago and been really wanting to repeat the experience!

By Van Bivens on July 13th, 2009

Opal Fly and the Swatters! We worship at their jazzy awesome altar, but don’t get to see them very often because we rarely have childcare and can’t haul our 6yr old to the bar, ha. But they advertised Mulberry at the Fayetteville Library show they played recently, recommending it as good for the whole family, with lots of children’s activities, so we’re even more interested in checking out the festival now. With free tickets, we might just be able to make a lifelong festival fan out of our kiddo, eh, get him off to a great start? :) And for ourselves, the lineup looks incredible and we -miss- going to shows like this! Have tent, will travel. Thanks for the contest!

By chancevb on July 13th, 2009

Greensky Bluegrass. At first, I thought, well it’d be cool to see a green sky maybe they will be able to pull that off. Then, I listened to a couple of their tunes on myspace. They’re mighty fine pickers. THEN, I heard ‘boom boom (ain’t it great to be crazy 1:37),’ haha that sealed the deal. I’m going to see these guys and I hope it’s free because of the flyer.

By Lincoln's Mullet on July 13th, 2009

The Avett Brothers! Their performance last year was stellar.

By skalmt on July 13th, 2009

Railroad Earth b/c they are always AMAZING!! Split Lip is always a good time, and The Avett Brothers were great last year and I can’t wait to check them out again!

By Allison on July 13th, 2009

Umphrey’s McGee!

By Alishia Ferguson on July 13th, 2009

Wow….Nitty Gritty Dirt Band….I used to have one of their 45s……does that date me? Just a little???

By Amber on July 13th, 2009

Three Penny Acre. Their music makes me want to dance every time. And Shannon Wurst is amazing.

But honestly… I think almost every band there looks pretty amazing. What a great lineup!

-Amber

By Urk on July 13th, 2009

Let me be one more person to say…Avett Brothers! Crazy good songwriting, fearless, committed, funny, easily the most interesting “acoustic” (or roots or americana or whathaveyou) band in a long time. I could go on all day, but i won’t.

By reed on July 13th, 2009

Squirrel Nut Zippers. Glad to know that people still play music like that.

Also Cletus, 3 Penny Acre, Opal Fly, and Eckobase just to show support for them as a friend and/or frequent face in their crowds.

By VirgB on July 13th, 2009

Three Penny Acre and the rest of the local Fayetteville/NWA crew! Toe tappin’, finger snappin’. Supporting local music at a big venue is where it’s at!!

By Mike Clark on July 13th, 2009

Squirrel Nut Zippers

I remember staying up realllll late once as a teenager to see a webcast of a show of theirs and loving every minute of the grainy lo-fi performance. Now I have a chance to see the real M-F’in deal!

Love Eckobase as well, seeing them again would be a treat.

By gnomes on July 13th, 2009

avett brothers!!!!!!!! yay!

By Mike on July 13th, 2009

Nitty gritty dirt band sounds fun. I really need to go so I can find the sunglasses (and dignity) I lost at Wakarusa.

By Amy Strope on July 13th, 2009

It’s hard to nail it down to just one, but I won’t miss Railroad Earth fo sho!

By smarta on July 13th, 2009

I want to see as many bands as I can. I hear about some of them, have friends in the bands, have lots of friends who are in the jam band scene, but I’m new to it and would love the opportunity to go. I would like to submerse myself in it and learn and listen and put names with faces (and sounds.) Tickets would be greatly appreciated. I will even write a review as a first time fest-goer. :)

By Holley on July 14th, 2009

I fell head over feet for The Avett Brothers last Harvest… I have all their music now. Send me back. That is all.

By mischki on July 14th, 2009

Squirrel Nut Zippers!

By philm on July 14th, 2009

Gotta say Dirtfoot. Love it when these guys come thru town – they just play great American music. Railroad Earth too – the few times I’ve gotten to see them they just blew me away.

By Amber Kruth on July 14th, 2009

Ben! Miller! Band! Undoubtedly the most exuberating, elational, atom-moving, grooving group of musicians that sparks my inner soul to reverberate joy… They are one of those special groups that makes you have to dance and happy to hear them. Boy! I could really use an ounce of that in my life right now!

By E. on July 14th, 2009

Asylum Street Spankers…any band that can take me to heaven AND teach my how to sin more effectively has got to be good. Where else would I be able to hear them without going to Texas but at Mulberry Mountain? And they are God’s favorite band!

By amber on July 14th, 2009

For me it’s a toss-up between Big Smith and My-Tea Kind. I’ve only seen them once each, but the shows were AWESOME and changed my life a bit – that means it’s some good music.

By unicorn on July 14th, 2009

Will elliott whitmore cause he was awesome when he opened up for lucero a few years ago, plus his music just seems to fit the Harvest vibe

By CK on July 14th, 2009

I want to see Tea Leaf Green. They are my daughters favorite and she would be sooo happy if I brought home some tickets! Thanks!

By Milky on July 14th, 2009

I’m pretty curious about what the children’s activites will be. I think that taking my little one to this will be AWESOME! She can do a mean jig to some Cletus, and I think her mind would be blown by a whole festival!

By coldlampin on July 14th, 2009

William Elliott Whitmore by far. He is my favorite singer/songwriter around right now and I make sure to always catch him if he’s even remotely close. He also put out the best album so far this year, “Animals in the Dark”, so check it out if you haven’t already.

By 07stiltd on July 14th, 2009

I’m going to see the squirrel nut zippers. THey put on a fantastic show and this is the first one that’s come anywhere near AR recently.

By Taylor on July 14th, 2009

For us, it is the Nitty Gritty Dirt Band. When I was in the delivery room having my baby girl, my husband brought in the iPod and player while I was in labor. Stella’s first song she ever heard was Fishin’ in the dark! Pretty cool, I think!

By solomon burchfield on July 15th, 2009

Avett Bros. They are all over the place this year and I’m tired of being the only one who hasn’t seen them live.

By Ellen on July 15th, 2009

I’m excited about Nitty Gritty Dirt Band and Ozark Mountain Daredevils! My dad made me love them and it would be so fun to get to see them! But I can’t wait to shake it to all the rockin bands on the lineup.

By bryan on July 15th, 2009

Squirrel Nut Zippers and Split Lip Rayfield are tops on my list to see here. Have not had a chance to see Squirrel Nut Zippers live so I’m really looking forward to this show. Especially if it get to see them for free!

By Ingsoc on July 15th, 2009

Tea Leaf Green and Umphrey’s. And everyone else…

Railroad Earth, Squirrel Nut Zippers, and Big Smith!

By Molly Jones on July 19th, 2009

It has been my dream this summer to go to a festival at Mulberry Mountain. I purchased tickets for Wakarusa, but was unable to attend! I WAS DEVASTATED!!!! Umphrey’s McGee, Lotus, Tea Leaf Green, Railroad Earth, and Cornmeal are some of my FAVORITE bands. I was visiting New York City in 2007, and randomly attended an Umphrey’s McGee show in Times Square, and I have been hooked on the band ever since! I think it would be awesome to see Umphrey’s again especially since I know their songs now! I LOVE dancing, camping, and hanging out. THIS WOULD BE AN AWESOME OPPORTUNITY!! I have a passion for live music, and so badly want to attend this festival!

By Ryan on July 27th, 2009

Umphrey’s McGee(haven’t seen them since Mulberry last year), Railroad Earth, Lotus, Tea Leaf Green, Split Lip Rayfield, Big Smith, Papa Mali, Oakhurst, Cornmeal, Family Groove Company, Chicago Afrobeat Project and I could keep going. Last year was my first time going to Mullberry for the Harvest Fest and I do not want to miss another one!!

By Austin on July 29th, 2009

A couple of years ago my friend and I experienced Hot Buttered Rum for the first time at the Mulberry Mountain Music Festival. It was a very special in the sense that we had not been able to see very many live bands together before then. That evening, I think it was the Saturaday of the festival, we discussed how the band had transformed his outlook on live music, outdoor music venues, as well as the great people who attend these events. Since then we have seen a few other great live shows, but to date we have not been able to catch another Hot Buttered Rum show. Last year we planned on attending Mulberry Mountain again; however, financial complications prevented his attendance. This year I would like to surprise him with an extra ticket, so he and I can experience the same enjoyment we had back then at their concert. Given that they are playing twice this year makes such a surprise even sweeter. An opportunity such as this cannot go without me showing my appreciation to FayettevilleFlyer and Mulberry Mountain Music Festival. I will make sure to let everyone we see at the festival know how great and considerate these two organizations were. Thank you guys, and the best of luck to the rest of the entries.

By Sarah Pierson on July 29th, 2009

I want to see as many shows as possible at the festival, but the one show I just can not miss is Steep Canyon Rangers. I’ve never seen them live, but I’ve been listening to them since my friend recommended them to me. I think it will be one of the best shows there, along with Railroad Earth and the Avett Brothers. I want to thank FayettevilleFlyer and Mulberry Mountain for this oppurtunity to enter this drawing, and if I were to win I would bring tons of positive vibes to the festival and would bring a friend who is most deserving of a good ole’ Arkansas shakedown. Thanks again!

By mjordan4343 on July 29th, 2009

{insert band name here}

live music just rocks no matter what.

By Sheri Ables on July 29th, 2009

There are many bands I would like to see but I am very excited to see Ozark Mountain Daredevils! They were the first concert I ever went to when I was 16 years old and I will be 46 by the time of the concert so it would be a real treat to see them 30 years later!! Thanks!

By Tom Sawyer on July 29th, 2009

I have been playing the “Christmas Caravan” CD in my car since it came out in 1998, and recently loaded it on my iPod (along with “Bedlam Ballroom,” “Sold Out,” and “Hot”) so i can take it in to work. It never sounds old, and I especially like the song “Winter Weather.”

I love the winter weather
Because the two of us can get together
There’s nothing sweeter and finer
When it’s nice and cold, I can hold
My Baby closer to me

Was really hoping to see Jahlonious Monk on the lineup, but we can’t have it all!

Thank guys!

By Angie on July 29th, 2009

3 Penny Acre, Corey Smith, & Ben Miller Band because there is nothing better than live music in this kind of setting. Love the Ozarks and love this kind of music!

By Brian Sorensen on July 29th, 2009

Tea Leaf Green is the type of band that we need more of, and I really, really want to see them live. Musicianship is a lost art in the world of Top 40, and TLG doesn’t sell themselves out in order to move records.

By Elizabeth on July 29th, 2009

I would love to see the Avett Brothers! I got to see them earlier in the summer and they are amazing!!!

By Pam on July 29th, 2009

Ozark. Mountain. Daredevils.

By Jay Phillips on July 29th, 2009

I would love love love to see Squirrel Nut Zippers! They have been a my favorite group for over 10 years and they have NEVER gotten this close to me! Usually they tour the coasts and I am so excited about the chance to be able to see them! It would fulfill a life long dream~!!!

By Teresa chard on July 29th, 2009

Nitty Gritty Dirt band, Opal Fly, Ozark Mountain Dare Devil…Any and All the bands I have never heard before!! Any music at Mulberry Mountain has to be great!! What a fantastic place to listen to music. ON top of the mountain under the stars.. Could you get any closer to perfection?

By Jessy Lang on July 29th, 2009

Umphrey’s McGee because it’s been way too long since I saw them last. There are many others too, but theirs is definitely a show not to miss. Nothing else like it.

By Aaron Thomason on July 29th, 2009

I really wanna see Umphrey’s McGee ’cause since the first time I saw them back in 2003 they been crazy as hell to see!

By Forz on July 29th, 2009

Railroad Earth… Always a great time and a great show!

By Kylie on July 29th, 2009

I would really like to see Loutus. The last time I saw them in Lawrence I had a cold so I could not dance at full speed. Hope to see everyone on the mountain!!

By Russian Chick on July 29th, 2009

Quite frankly I don’t know any of those bands and what kind of music each of them plays, but the reason why I want to go is the experience in whole. I’ve been to Mulberry Mountain last year for the first time (and it was my first open-air live music/camping festival) with my good friends, and I will never forget that indescribable feeling that you get when you’re dancing under the stars and live music just wraps around your body. I was so in tune with everybody else around that I felt almost like I’m not just me anymore, that I’m dissipating into the universe, and it was a glorious, filled with unspeakable joy experience. This is why I want to go back to Mulberry Mountain this summer.
