Weekend: August 28, 29, 30

Do you like dolphins? That show Dancing with the Stars? Full frontal nudity?

Just curious.

Tonight, you have some choices.

Wanna watch a movie? Sweet. You could head over to the Lewis Soccer Complex for Friday Night at the Movies where you can watch Kicking and Screaming in the open air.

Or, you could head over to the UARK Bowl for their dinner and a movie night. They are showing The Big Lebowski, and seating is getting scarce. Better get over there, man.

Or, I guess you could just go to the movies. Inglourious Basterds is playing. Who’s seen it?

Maybe you want to check out some tunes? There’s a free show at the Botanical Gardens of the Ozarks with the Lonesome Road bluegrass band. I love free.

Austin’s Graham Wilkinson and The Underground Township will be at Smoke and Barrel. Wilkinson graduated from Hendrix college in Conway before heading to Austin. Opener Jonathan Wilkins is also a Hendrix alum. Go Arkansas.

Also tonight, the Second City 50th Anniversary Tour will be at the Walton Arts Center. Second City is a hilarious person factory out of Chicago, and people are still talking about the show from last time they were in town. Check out the interview with cast member Abby McEnany.

Saturday morning always starts with the Farmers’ Market but you could also become a citizen scientist at Secchi Day if you wanna.

After that, you could swing by and check out the new digs at the NWA Center for Equality’s open house from 12:00-4:00 pm.

Saturday night, the place to be is probably George’s Majestic Lounge where Hardaway and the Commoners will release their new CD “Off the Record.” Little Rock’s 607 is also in town, along with The One Ups, and Groovement.

Also Saturday night, world famous local bluesman RJ Mischo will be blowing a mean harp, and not in a dirty way at the Smoke and Barrel. If you’ve never seen him, do yourself a favor and do it (not in a dirty way).

Sunday, head to Pesto Cafe and eat some pasta, and listen to the sweet, sweet sounds of Shannon Wurst. Warning: you’ll probably develop a serious crush on her. Try to control yourself.

That’s what I’d do. What are you guys doing this weekend?
