The Duggars announce #19

September 1, 2009 9:39 am · By Dustin · 38 Comments

When I woke up this morning to the sight of about 30 people smiling at me from the set of the Today Show, I knew it could only mean one thing.

Holy crap, the Duggars are having another one.

The family threw everyone off a few months ago when they went on the Today Show and didn’t announce that Michelle was having a baby, instead announcing that their oldest son and his wife were having their first child.

Those taking the grandchild as a sign that this madness with Jimbob and Michelle was over were dead wrong. Michelle beamed this morning with the announcement.

“We are thrilled to announce that we found out we’re expecting our 19th child,” Michelle said.

Michelle, at 42 has now been pregnant 147 months of her life, with five more to go. That’s over 12 years of pregnancy in her 42 years, over 1/4 of her life.

Baby # 19 is due on March 18th of next year. Whoa.

It’s a vagina……..not a clown car!!!

By M.S on September 1st, 2009

enough is enough..that is being very selfish on their part and to the rest of their family. Each kid taking care of the next one…. Don’t they believe in over population, not to mention taxing the government. What does this Jimbob do with his time? Oh wait I know….silly me to ask that question….Put a ca bash on it Jim and get some help….if I were the wife I wouldn’t stand for it….but then again she enjoys it as much….

By Me on September 1st, 2009

I don’t understand why this is such an issue with people. I personally don’t feel that having that many children is for me, but who am I to dictate what someone else should do? These children seem extremely well cared for and the family has found a way to make it work. I hear people say that it isn’t fair to the other children. Why? It teaches them responsibility and patience. I think the kids being brought up today are being taught that they should not have to do anything but play video games and eat…parents will take care of everything else. Then these kids are pushed out onto society with no concept of how to take care of themselves, and end up back at mom and dad’s house. I don’t necessarily agree with everything this family does, but I do respect them.

By yrfuneralmytrial on September 1st, 2009

I agree. Light-hearted goofing aside, I see no real reason to knock them. They’re loved, fed, clothed, bathed and well-mannered. Most parents can’t manage that with 2 kids. And if cousin Amy gets the baby bug, I’m her man!

By TnCyndi on September 1st, 2009

The Duggars are raising happy, healthy, well-adjusted, productive children that will grow to be well adjusted, productive adults. They do not depend on the state to help raise their children or require the supervision of the Department of Human Services to make sure they are treating their children well. Why in the world does anyone have an issue with the fact that these people obviously love their children, and are able to handle thier parenting responsibilites well and actually love doing it? In the South, it is not uncommon to see large families. Never will I understand the attitudes of some people regarding this family. I wish there were more parents like the Duggars in this world… it might be a better place if there were!

By Infidel on September 1st, 2009

“The Duggars are raising happy, healthy, well-adjusted, productive children”…well, I’d give them maybe 3 out of 4 of those, I just don’t see how they could be “well adjusted”. Yes, it’s the Duggar’s right to procreate as much as they deem necessary. However, my issue with the Duggars is that I believe having 19 kids is utterly irresponsible – to the other kids, to the community and to the earth. Overpopulation is a real issue and there are thousands of kids out there in foster homes or state care that could use a home. Also, their whole drive to have that many kids is their interpretation of the bible. To me, they seem very self-centered and unaware of the outside world (except for the TV deal, of course) and they have the convenient crutch of religion to lean on to explain their ludicrous behavior. I bet if the Octo-Mom, or whoever the hell she is, was a devout follower of some zany Christian sect, there would be a lot less outcry.

By becky on September 1st, 2009

Someone needs to slip her some birth control! They’ve sold out their children for finanial gain. I would never put my children on television to help pay the bills. Obviously they can’t take care of all the little ones at once. The older children are nothing but nannies to them. These people breed like rabbits and are raising their children to be the same way.

By Zaff on September 1st, 2009

They didnt put their children on TV to pay the bills. They were making it quite nicely before the show.
The kids are healthy, probably a little weird (who isn’t and who am i to judge who is weird? Sometimes I do stuff that weirds the poop out of myself, so we are all a little strange. Is this the longest comment within parenthesis ever? I bet I am close) but they seem happy so to judge them on the size of their family or their somewhat unique religious practices seems a little unnessary

By Brad on September 1st, 2009

So she’s pregnant……big deal. Their kids aren’t going hungry. They aren’t mooching off of welfare. It’s their choice.

By Infidel on September 1st, 2009

I guess it comes down to having any sense of social responsibility. They seem to have none. A family of 21 has never been, and will likely never be, necessary at all. It’s impractical, irresponsible and incredibly ego-centric. I agree they’re free to perform whatever ridiculous and nightmare inducing practices they want; I’m also free to completely disagree with their way of life and feel a little disgusted with how they choose to live. This is all religion-driven; trying to increase the number of chrisitians for powers’ sake. Just b/c they’re not drawing welfare, sacrificing babies and feeding their kids doesn’t mean they aren’t detrimental to society in some form or fashion. For example, their TV show.

By Me on September 1st, 2009

“I guess it comes down to having any sense of social responsibility.”

So I guess this means that you believe in forced sterilization? A person should only be allowed to have as many children as YOU deem appropriate?

“Just b/c they’re not drawing welfare, sacrificing babies and feeding their kids doesn’t mean they aren’t detrimental to society in some form or fashion.”

In a society that is rampant with immorality and the glorification of drug use, promiscuous sex and unwarranted violence….that’s rich.

By burgerboy on September 1st, 2009

Way rather the Duggars be “socially irresponsible” and have kids, than the tattooed trash I see lugging around the welfare babies at Wal-Mart.

They aren’t hurting anybody. Leave them alone.

By Me on September 1st, 2009

Another imposter “Me”… I guess I need to start using a more creative nickname :)

By Infidel on September 1st, 2009

Nah, I never said anything about forced sterilization. However, in my opinion, having 19 kids is irresponsible. They’re having these kids b/c they’re letting god decide for them how many kids to have. I’m sorry, but to me, that’s effin’ crazy. I never advocated limiting the number of kids, either. But using some common sense might be nice.

Yes, it’s sad to see “tattooed trash” (not my words) dragging around children in Wally World. And yes, I would say they’re irresponsible as well. However, I don’t see how that plays into the Duggars at all. I also don’t buy the “they’re not hurting anyone” argument. I think they are advocating an unsustainable way of life to the general public. All sorts of idiots could easily buy into the “let god decide” on how many kids to have. No condoms, no birth control, kids are a gift, god will do what’s best. To me, that kind of thinking has the potential to hurt a whole lot of people.

Finally, “leave them alone”, seriously? I’m commenting on a story about them. They were on the friggin’ morning national news and they have a TLC show. oh, and a book. Leave them alone? Come on.

“In a society that is rampant with immorality and the glorification of drug use, promiscuous sex and unwarranted violence”

You say that like it’s a bad thing. Kinda puts me in the mood for rough x-sex with an average looking stranger. ;)

at least they have a healthy sex life

Duggar Please !!

By a. brown on September 1st, 2009

If it’s their own business and it’s no big deal, why put a story on a site about it?

By matty on September 1st, 2009

you say it’s no big deal now but wait until these kids start running for office.

Child Please

By Jason on September 1st, 2009

What are they thinking? That they live in a free country and they can have as many kids as they want? Pfft!

By burgerboy on September 1st, 2009

So you consider their way of life “unsustainable”?

They pay their own way. They pay for their children. They sacrifice in other areas to provide for their children.

They are completely sustainable.

What unsustainable is people having children and expecting the state to provide for them. Complain about that.

I’m confident that every single Duggar child will grow up to be a taxpayer and likely create more wealth than they consume.

The population growth you should be wringing your hands about is the 90% of the population growth that is taking place in the Third World where they cannot even feed themelves, let alone build wealth.

There are literally hundreds of thousands of families in Africa and Latin America with these kinds of numbers, who rely entirely on foreign aid to survive.

The Duggars are white and Christian, which, predictably, means the hard lefties hate them.

By Innarested Observer on September 1st, 2009

The only people I hate are those who would assign such a narrow view to people with different political opinions. Christians are OK with me. It’s just so hard to find practicing ones.

By bitchdoc on September 2nd, 2009

Here’s the thing: As a physician, I can attest that after women have excessive babies–oh and that Duggar chick has had waaay tooo many–they develop really unattractive issues like incontinence to urine, feces, and flatus. Meaning that they can’t hold their pee, their poop, or their poots. Gross! And having sex with her has got to be like–well, let’s just say her umm, elasticity is all shot to heck.
And are we sure that all the older female “children” are really Ms Duggar’s offspring, and not “sister wives”? I’m just sayin’

There’s no reason to bring us tattooed trash into this…

By CasuallyCanadian on September 2nd, 2009

Nobody should be able to dictate how many children a woman should be allowed to birth. That said, a pregnancy at her age is irresponsible because of the much higher risk for congenital diseases and complications. She is that much more likely to give birth to a child with autism, and other birth defects. At her age, surely she must have been told this by her doctor, so her continuing to birth babies is courting problems.

By Offcamber on September 2nd, 2009

Assuming each of the children is as productive as their parents, the Duggar clan will grow exponentially, reaching a family size nearly triple that of the current United States population within 100 years.

The most sweeping geo-political force in our lifetimes will not be energy, global warming, freshwater resources, terrorism, or drug-resistant pandemics. It will be the seed of a guy named Jim Bob.

By jules on September 2nd, 2009

I love the babies and did I notice a new hairstyle on Michelle? If so, I like that too.

By Brandon Kittler on September 2nd, 2009

Surely her Dr. had encouraged her to stop this? She already has 18, and at her age she is really rolling the dice on birth defects or other complications during pregnancy.

By Infidel on September 3rd, 2009

Come on, she’s not going to listen to a doctor. Children are a gift from god, and they’re going to let god decide how many children they’re going to have. Medical advice means nothing to these people. They just have to wait until god decides that they have had enough children. Apparently, they have yet to meet god’s quota.

Love that movie! A world overrun with Beavis & Buttheads…yep, that’s where we’re headed. At least the Duggar kids seem quite well-behaved.

I remember there being a Christmas postcard in the newspaper years ago (maybe when they only had about 10-12 kids) that showed all of them posed with violins and all the girls were wearing those homemade-looking lace collars that girls used to wear over their dresses…scary and laugh-out-loud funny at the same time.

By lola on September 4th, 2009

100 yrs ago most of these children would not have survived for some reason or another..I don’t care if they have had no medical problems. The point is there are other people on the earth and we are all trying to share limited resources with everyone. If your going to be gluttons in the name of god, yea indulging yourself in children (anything) is gluttony or addiction. And think you’re clever for it, and you’re validated because someone gave you a tv show, and yea, it is helping to pay the bills, I can’t watch it, it makes me sick. Same as the debacle of Jon and Kate plus eight. 2 kids wasn’t enough??? Where do these people’s egos come from??? Oh, from god I guess…What also gets me is all the discovery channels glorifying lifestyles that are raping the planet for their own profit. The above people are. The halfwit loggers are another. The crab fisherman with the “most dangerous job in the world” are another.
The Dugan kids are well behaved, but how about their parents. Not socially responsible. Nuh huh!

By David Franks on September 4th, 2009

At least the Duggars are not an antigovernment polygamist sect hypocritically taking welfare to support their families. Although I suspect that Mrs. Duggar might wish that Mr. Duggar was a polygamist.

By Jess on December 7th, 2009

Firstly I have to make a comment made by bitchdoc-”And are we sure that all the older female “children” are really Ms Duggar’s offspring, and not “sister wives”? I’m just sayin’” Honestly that’s just plan sick! You can see the resemblance between Michelle and Jim Bob and all their children. So suggesting that he may be impregnating his own Daughters and passing them off as Michelle’s is just plans wrong!

Secondly- The Duggar’s are self sufficient, they own commercial property they rent out, which they have used to provide income to support there family for years. The show is a means to show their religion, and possibly like the Gosslin’s, to gain footage of their family for memories. The pay taxes like everyone else and DO NOT rely on Government hand outs. Nor are they in debt, unlike families which may only have one or two kids.

Thirdly- This family has values, morals and self preservation. Yes you may say they are old fashioned, but at least they are not walking around half naked, are not doing drugs, robbing chain stores or ending up in jail every other month. Sorry if that sounds mean but but hey its true. Nor are the girls getting pregnant at age 13 like some, or the boys knocking a girl up and then denying that its theirs and causing the girl to be a single mum.

Just give this family a break. They care about their family, their friends and helping those in need. Notice they helped kids in El Salvador?? And maybe instead of the Duggar kids having their own Biological kids (or even as many as their parents) they will adopt kids from El Salvador or another country/place where kids need a home. Jim Bob even mentioned it in the El Salvador episode.

By Annabella on December 7th, 2009

Here is a little trivia knowledge. I worked out that if every Duggar Child had 19 kids, Michelle and Jim Bob would have 361 grand kids. If their grand kids all had 19 kids each, that would make 6859 great grand kids. And if everyone of those great grand kids had 19 kids each that would make a whopping total of 130,321 great great grand kids for Michelle and Jim Bob. Imagine that family reunion!!!!
