Terry (’s Towing) Hayes sneaks out of court
After being convicted of holding a gun to his son’s head and threatening to kill a witness, the owner of Terry’s Towing fled the courtroom and disappeared into the Bikes, Blues & BBQ traffic.

Wrong Bernice Young
Bernice Young Elementary School in Springdale has been receiving angry calls about a video that is circulating showing students singing about President Obama. The students are actually from B. Bernice Young Elementary in New Jersey.

Low odds of winning
Arkansas News has a piece on the approximate odds of winning the Arkansas Lottery which began today.

Arkansas Parks & Tourism budget increase
According to the AP, the Arkansas Department of Parks and Tourism saw an increase in its budget to try and bring more tourists to the state.

ELSEWHERE

The United States of Wal-Mart!
Nearly half of respondents to a “60 Minutes”-Vanity Fair Poll released Sunday say Wal-Mart is the institution that best symbolizes America today.

Shorter summer vacations?
If President Barack Obama has his way, students will spend more time in school and less time on summer vacation. Maybe an agrarian economy-based calendar isn’t the best idea anymore?

The interesting thing about Obama wanting more school is that we already have more school hours than the countries we lag behind on education. It is not about quantity, but more about quality of education that we fail on.

Agreed.
I’d rather have gone to school all year, though, with far shorter breaks. Or perhaps having a 4-day school week with longer hours, 3-day w/e (and encourage kids to participate in volunteer activities, part time jobs, or pseudo-internships or something) and go all year.
