To-do: Tuesday 10/13
Five years ago, best selling author David Sedaris told the New York Times, “I owe everything to Ira.”
He was, of course, speaking of public radio personality Ira Glass, who discovered Sedaris reading his diary in a Chicago club. Glass put Sedaris on his local radio show which eventually led to NPR and a handful of best-selling books. Accidental fame.
Back in January, Walton Arts Center hosted Ira Glass and tonight, it’s David Sedaris. Bonus: according to @walton_arts, there are still a few tickets left.
Mr. Sedaris will deliver a 60-minute reading, followed by a Q&A session and book signing at 7:00 pm.
Also tonight is the SWEPCO rate increase input session at the Town Center, the rescheduled Chefs in the Garden at the Botanical Garden of the Ozarks and a little music, too.
Here’s the full list:
- Fayetteville Town Center: SWEPCO Rate Increase Meetin 6 pm
- Botanical Garden of the Ozarks: Chefs in the Garden
- George’s: Josh Abbott Band
- Teatro Scarpino: Live jazz
- Walton Arts Center: David Sedaris 7pm

I wish I could go to Sedaris’ reading, but alas the only thing I have to do today falls exactly on top of it. What a shame.

He was hilarious last time here. If you haven’t seen him, you’re missing out. I think there were a lot of season ticket holders last time he was here that didn’t quite understand who he was. A few minutes into one of the more graphic (and thus HILARIOUS) readings regarding beastiality, I believe, at least 7 or so blue hairs walked out. It was fantastic.

Query: what would be a good spot to eat tonight within walking distance of the WAC? In the context of the thousands of DS fans descending? Is Damgoode far enough off?

You can walk to the WAC from the Uber Burger Bistro (parking is available).
Railhead Saloon also allows customers to park for free until 10 p.m. (great burgers).

Giraldi’s might be a good spot…pretty close to the WAC, but far enough off Dickson that maybe it won’t fill up. Also, trailside cafe might be worth a shot (unless booze is a prereq, then nevermind)

Feltner Brothers – is close and I doubt many people would think to go there. Just opened.
