Shortcuts: Former FHS coach Joe Kretschmar dies at 75

KNWA is reporting that former longtime Fayetteville High School coach Joe Kretschmar passed away Wednesday morning after battling cancer for four months.

Kretschmar, who coached basketball at FHS for 26 years, won 530 games and three state championships before being replaced by his former player and assistant coach Barry Gebhart in 1992.

He is an Arkansas High School Coaches Association Hall of Fame member and was also a member of the Arkansas Officials Association Hall of Fame.

“Coach K” was 75.
