Ever wanted to serve on a board, committee or commission as a volunteer citizen? If so, now is your chance to apply.

The Fayetteville City Clerk is currently accepting applications for vacant board and committee positions.

Below is a list of openings including a description of responsibilities and meeting times.

All applications must be received by 5:00 pm on Nov. 30, 2009 and all volunteers must reside within the Fayetteville city limits and be a Fayetteville registered voter. All applicants must submit a new application for each desired board, committee, or commission position. Applications may be emailed to [email protected] or mailed to the City Clerk’s office at 113 West Mountain, Fayetteville, AR 72701. AIRPORT BOARD
Created: Dec. 18, 1990
Description: This board seeks both general and technical citizen input and assistance in airport functions, to provide and encourage visionary planning and strong leadership for the airport, and to assist the City Council in matters pertaining to the operation, improvement, extension, and maintenance of the airport and other related facilities, property and easements.
Meets: The second Thursday of each month at 3:00 pm at the Fayetteville Municipal Airport Conference Room.

ANIMAL SERVICES ADVISORY BOARD
Created: April 7, 2009
Description: This board acts in an advisory capacity to the Animal Services Superintendent, the Mayor, and the City Council on all policy matters pertaining to the Animal Services Division activities, and works to stimulate and encourage communication with all members of the community to ensure that the programs, goals and objectives of the Animal Services Division are consistent with community needs and desires.

AUDIT COMMITTEE
Created: Oct. 3, 2000
Description: This committee serves in an advisory capacity between the City Council, the City’s independent auditor, internal auditor, and management. The Committee reviews the City’s financial reports and internal controls regarding finance and accounting.
Meets: At least three times annually, or more frequently as circumstances dictate.

CONSTRUCTION BOARD OF ADJUSTMENT AND APPEALS
Created: July 6, 1976
Description: This board hears and acts upon appeals regarding decisions made by the Building Inspector/Superintendent. It also hears appeals regarding construction materials to be used in new building construction and development. In addition, it hears appeals regarding enforcement of the minimum housing standards for existing structures as specified in the Standard Building Codes.
Meets: No regularly scheduled meetings. Members are telephoned a week in advance of meetings.

ENVIRONMENTAL ACTION COMMITTEE
Created: Sept. 5, 1995
Description: This committee works to address environmental concerns, to promote a safe and healthy environment, and to maintain the natural beauty of the environment within the city. It makes recommendations to other city committees and to the City Council on matters concerning the environment.
Meets: The second Thursday of each month at 5:30 pm in City Hall room 326.

HOUSING AUTHORITY BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS
Created: 1965
Description: This board approve by-laws, resolutions, policies and procedures for administering housing programs for low income persons.
Meets: The fourth Thursday of each month at 6:00 pm in City Hall room 326.

PARKS AND RECREATION ADVISORY BOARD
Created: Jan. 3, 1967
Description: Members of this board work in the public interest and speak for the general community. The duty of the board members is to stimulate and encourage communication with all members of the community to ensure that programs, goals, and objectives are consistent with community needs and desires.
Meets: The first Monday of each month at 5:30 pm in City Hall room 326. Additionally, there are committee meetings that occur on a regular basis.

SIDEWALK AND TRAILS TASK FORCE
Created: June 5, 2001
Description: The task force reviews public comment and advises City Staff on the prioritization and land acquisition/easements for sidewalks and trails within the City. It is also responsible for adopting Sidewalk and Trails Master Plans.
Meets: The second Wednesday of odd-numbered months at 5:30 pm in City Hall room 326.

TREE AND LANDSCAPE ADVISORY COMMITTEE
Created: April 20, 1993
Description: This committee: assists in dissemination of news and information regarding the protection, maintenance, removal, and planting of trees; advises and consults on issues pertaining to the Tree Protection Ordinance; determines the City’s needs in connection with trees; and pursues the establishment of a comprehensive Fayetteville Street Tree Plan.
Meets: The third Thursday of each month at 4:00 pm in City Hall room 111.
