Hoop Hogs beat Dillard 77-59
As soon as the starting lineup was announced at last night’s exhibition opener against Dillard, I knew what the stories would look like this morning. Lots. Of. Questions.
That’s because it was one of the most surprising sets of starters we’ve seen in a while and by the end of the game, we still hadn’t had a look at our new star freshman. Regardless, the Hogs beat the Bleu Devils 77-59.
Starters for the game were forwards Michael Washington and Jemal Farmer, guards Rotnei Clarke and Julysses Nobles, and walk-on Stephen “The Golfer” Cox.
So what are some of the questions Hog fans were left with last night?
Here’s my list:
1. Why didn’t Courtney Fortson start? Because of that tweet?
2. Where was Stefan Welsh? Still suspended?
3. More importantly, where was Marshawn Powell? Did he really have the flu?
4. Was Rotnei Clark wearing spring-loaded shoes? No? Then how in the world did he jump so high over and over and over?
5. Who’s that guy on the bench that looks like the freshman quarterback we saw during open football practices a few months ago? It can’t actually be him, can it?
6. Is Michael Sanchez really out for the season? P.S. What’s plantar fasciitis?
7. OK, fine. Where was Nick Mason?
For a list of links to help answer some of my questions, I’m turning to our friends over at RazorBloggers.

Pel didn’t talk about Welsh’s absence in his post game interview, but he did talk about Powell and Sanchez. This makes me think that old Stef is clipped. He was a strong player, but from what I’ve seen so far I think we’re gonna be fine this season. Our bench is looking pretty deep. GO HOGS!
Where was John Paul Noland? Oh wait that guy sucked.

According to google health, Plantar fasciitis is irritation and swelling of the thick tissue on the bottom of the foot.
According to me (who has had it in just one foot), it SUCKS. Imagine the feeling of having a bruised heel and multiply it by about 15(ish). The only way to heal it is to stay off your feet and ice it. If it doesn’t heal, it could cause bone spurs and cause surgery. It’s such a weird injury to hear about, until you’ve had it.

@Brad – Ouch. That sounds terrible. Thanks for the info.

Yeah, PF is very painful and often seen in runners. I read this year that during the offseason Rotnei went to a lot of camps and really worked on his strength. Says he can dunk two handed now…which is two more hands than I can dunk with.

I’ve also had plantar fascitis; NYG QB Eli Manning is dealing with it right now, San Antonio’s Tim Duncan has also had it. Completely not cool. If when you were a carefree kid you ever stomped (accidentally, presumably) on a pebble with your heel, you know the feeling.
