Maxine’s Tap Room reduces operating hours

Rumors have been circulating around town that legendary Fayetteville bar Maxine’s Tap Room had closed for business. Those rumors aren’t true.

Maxine’s has, however, cut operation to only Friday and Saturday nights recently, and will close for the month of December except for private parties, according to owner Andrea Foren.

“Maxine’s isn’t closed down. I plan to close the month of December,” Foren said. “November and December are always such a stress because of how slow business gets.”

Maxine’s was opened in 1950 by Maxine Miller, Foren’s great aunt. Miller operated the bar for 50 years before her health began declining in 2000. Miller died at 82 years old in May of 2006.

Foren said that she hopes things pick up at the bar her great aunt opened almost 60 years ago.

“We do have Jed (Clampit) playing Friday and Saturday this weekend as well as Scott & Russ playing November 13th,” Foren said. “I’m going to do everything within my control to make sure Maxine’s stays open.”

I tried to go there last Saturday and it was closed. A Saturday, a Halloween, a huge home football game and they were closed. It was also October. Open the door and come I’ll come fo at least a bit.

Once a favorite hang out of mine, this place has been steadily heading downhill this past year. The last few times I’ve been there its felt like its just been me and some crickets. Are we nearing the end of a Fayetteville institution?

Alright folks– it’s time to put aside petty differences and save Maxine’s—one pitcher at a time!
