KFSM is reporting that the man who allegedly attempted to rob the Arvest Bank on Garland Avenue yesterday afternoon died after being shot by Fayetteville police while trying to escape the scene.

Matthew Anderson, 29, of Elkins allegedly tried to rob the bank through the drive through window. Witnesses say Anderson passed the teller a note demanding money, and claiming he had partners inside who had sealed off the exits. Police were dispatched to the area, and Anderson was shot when trying to ram the car behind him in the drive through in an attempt to escape.

Anderson was taken to Washington Regional Medical Center where he later died from the gunshot wounds sustained at the scene.

The officer who shot Anderson has not been named, and is on paid leave pending an investigation.
