Opal Fly’s Feel Good Lounge set to open New Year’s Eve
What do you get when you combine a live music venue, a late-night dance club, a massage parlor clinic, a smoothie bar, a retail store, and a yoga, drum and dance studio all under one roof?
I have no idea, but we’re about to find out when Opal Fly’s Feel Good Lounge opens across from Damgoode Pies next month.
For those who don’t know, Opal Fly is a local musician who moved to Fayetteville from Eureka Springs a year or so ago, and whose live show has been growing in notoriety around town ever since. Everything from guest appearances by musicians from all over the country to a live fire show have made their way into Fly’s performances in town, and now those performances will have a permanent home at 40 W. E. Center St. in the building that was most recently Flames, just off the Fayetteville square.
Opal Fly’s Feel Good Lounge will be open during the day for massage appointments as well as yoga, hand drumming, songwriting and spinning poi classes. The retail store will also be open during the day to sell drums, clothing, CDs, art, books, and jewelry. The space will become a venue for live music events in the evenings.
“My hope is that it will be a community center of sorts, a comfortable place for all to connect,” Fly told us in an interview.
The music venue will be able to accommodate about 100 people and will feature Opal Fly and the Feel Goods every Friday and Saturday night, as well as other local, regional, and national acts.
“There are two stages. The acoustic stage provides an intimate setting to really hear the musicians and the bigger stage is above the large dance floor,” Fly said.
The venue will serve fair trade coffees, teas, juices and “some special elixirs,” but will not serve alcohol. According to Fly, this will allow the venue to stay open later than bar-type music venues. The venue plans to stay open until 4:00 am on the weekends with live music early in the evening and live DJ’s from 1:00 am until 4:00 am.
“I want people to come over and see for themselves that we can kick it down, we can connect, we can enjoy the evening and feel good the next morning,” Fly said.
Opal Fly’s Feel Good Lounge will open on New Year’s Eve with Joe Credits from Kansas City, GB Mojo from Austin, and locals Opal Fly and The Feel Goods and 1 oz. Jig playing the grand opening party. DJ Vaxination and DJ Anita will spin records until 4:00 am to close out the night.
A full schedule of live music for the month of January, as well as available classes and workshops are available at Opal’s website.

I’ve been hoping someone would open up an after-hours/late night dance club for years now. I hope this works out well.

FYI
Passing this on to Fayetteville newcomers reading the article. It’s 40 EAST Center, not West and is also across the street from the Historic Courthouse… Our East & West dividing line is somewhat screwey here. (East Avenue is our East/West dividing line.)
Best of luck and Happy 2010 to Opal Fly.

Sorry to nitpick but massage parlor implies something other than massage therapy, technically they are massage clinics. Sorry…it’s just as massage therapists (female L.M.T’s especially….yes like the lmt in my screen name) we have a hard time enough as it is fighting stereotypes and even little things like wordage help. Thanks for putting up with my p.c. rant!

I love the idea of a late-night funky coffee shop, (and everything else this place will be,) and downtown at that…
Looking forward, and best of luck…
(Don’t forget about the new skating rink opening a few blocks away on College Avenue.) The new year is really looking up:)
