Fayetteville police searching for hit-and-run driver

Police believe that a woman who was run over by a vehicle Sunday morning had already been the victim of a hit-and-run accident earlier in the night.

According to a release issued today by city staff, police officers responded to the 3200 block of Mount Comfort Road in Fayetteville after receiving a report of a person being run over by a vehicle and lying in the roadway.

During the investigation, Fayetteville Police Chief Greg Tabor says information was obtained that led investigators to believe the victim, Shamika Redden, age 28, of Fayetteville, was already lying in the roadway before being struck by the vehicle. The driver and the vehicle were still on scene and they were found not to be at fault, nor were they impaired.

Witnesses were located and several pieces of evidence were collected that suggests another vehicle had struck the victim prior to the second.

Tabor announced today that the department is now investigating the fatality and that anyone with information regarding this case should call the Fayetteville Police Department at 587-3555.

We rolled up on this scene on Sunday morning right before they put the blanket on her. Not really a great way to end the night. I seriously hope this person gets caught, as I live in this neighborhood with my wife and two kids. Doesn’t make me very comfortable that this kind of thing can happen in my “hood”.

In addition, I hope there are plans for a sidewalk on that road along with the current expansion. That road does get a decent amount of foot traffic.

Good point MJ. I live off Mt. Comfort and the stretch from the interstate to Rupple gets a hell of a lot of foot and bike traffic. There are lots of kids that get dropped off around that neighborhood and have to make a fairly treacherous hike around all the construction. Hopefully, some planning and thought went into the road expansion. This is a terribly distrubing and tragic thing to happen. Having it closer to home just adds to the reality of the situation. I’d hate to see what the FPD does when they catch this guy/girl. The way they’ve been reacting recently, they may just call in an air strike.

They know who did it. They even went to his house after the accident and questioned his wife. I dont know why he’s still driving around free. I think shamika’s family should push the issue, cause fayetteville pd seems to have just let this one slide.
