Shortcuts: Barry Gebhart named athletics director for Fayetteville Public Schools

NWAOnline’s Rose Ann Pearce reports that Fayetteville High School basketball coach Barry Gebhart has been named as the new athletics director for Fayetteville Public Schools.

Gebhart is taking the position formerly held by Dick Johnson, who resigned in late July.

Johnson first joined the staff at FHS as an assistant coach and teacher in 1984. After leaving briefly to coach in Gentry, he returned to Fayetteville as head football coach in 1992, and was named athletic director later that year. He was promoted to assistant superintendent in 2006. As Rose Ann Pearce states, Johnson’s departure was sudden and unexplained.

Gebhart will continue his position as head boys basketball coach at FHS.
