Weekend: Jan 15-17

Well, how was your week, everyone? Was it productive? Was it restful? Was it awesome? Did it suck butts?

Actually, it doesn’t even matter. It’s about to get a lot better because it’s Friday, which means weekend, which means it’s time to put get all painted up in body paint and glitter, put on your sequined hot pants, and hit the town. Right? Weekend!

Tonight, there’s a famous country singer at George’s. David Nail scored himself a top 10 country hit with his song “Red Light,” which peaked at #7 on the country charts last year. Matt Stell & the Crashers will open the show.

If country’s not your thing, there’s a rock show with Ctrl+Alt+Del and Apartment 5 are at Smoke and Barrel tonight. That will be awesome.

Tonight is also the American Heart Association’s annual Paint the Town Red fundraiser at the Fayetteville Town Center. There will be food by tons of local restaurants, and tunes by Boom Kinetic for dancing, and all the money raised goes to the American Heart Association.

There are two house shows tonight. One is at the GROJ with DJ Wolfenstein 3D, Jack Topht and the Vegetables, and TIMBER!, and another is at Goodfollk with Steve Earle’s sister, Stacey Earle and her husband Mark Stuart. Both shows should be awesome.

Tomorrow morning, a GREEN Your Life series begins at the Fayetteville Public Library from 10am-noon. Experts will be sharing some really practical tips for energy conservation, and it’s the first in a four part series at the library.

Tomorrow night, if you’ve never seen Where’s Lawrence?, I highly recommend checking them out at Smoke and Barrel with Cletus Got Shot. Really good stuff.

Harry Apes BMX and The Dead Kenny Gs are at George’s, which also should be a really big show.

The Pope County Bootleggers are at JJ’s Grill & Chill, and Rogue has Bravesoul, Army of Birds, and Josh Hicks.

On Sunday, if you don’t do anything else, consider attending the Celebration of the Ozarks: Art & Ingenuity at Four Square Fine Art Gallery. There will be paintings by Joanne Jones, photographs by Kirk Lanier, music from Still on the Hill, and a special display of guitars made by Ed Stilley, as well as memorial reading of works by Donald Harington, sponsored by Burning Chair Readings. There will also be a display and sale of reproductions of art work by Harington. It all starts at 3:00 pm.

Also Sunday night, Smoke and Barrel is doing another movie night with three Eddie Murphy movies, Coming to America, Trading Places and Raw. Raw happens to be the funniest stand up comedy performance ever captured on video, IMO.

There’s a ton happening this weekend. What are you guys gonna do?
