More Wakarusa 2010 artists announced

February 4, 2010 12:23 pm · By Dustin · 14 Comments

It’s been a couple of weeks since Wakarusa announced the first 40 artists for this year’s festival on their Facebook page.

STS9, The Disco Biscuits, Blue Traveler, and a whole list of other bands were part of that first announcement, but we know from experience that these things come in waves. Last year, there were at least three official announcements.

We were alerted about this latest announcement by a tweet that came from the official Wakrusa Twitter account. At around noon Thursday, Wakarusa announced 40 more bands. There are some pretty enormous names on this list.

(In my best Keanu Reeves voice) WHOA!

Panic, RRFB and the Black Keys added to an already stellar line-up? This almost seems too good to be true. Combine that with the Moondoggies, State Radio and the rumors of ALO playing and I can hardly contain my excitement until June. A very nice and eclectic mix for Waka Waka Waka. I am glad to see this annual concert continue grow. Keep up the amazing work Waka!

With the exception of the Black Keys… the whole thing is still a little rooted in the jamband world for my current tastes (and this is from someone who has seen 40+ Phish shows and countless other jamband shows).

I understand that the year Waka tried to really branch out and go truly eclectic was a big flop, so I completely understand the economics of going back to a more jamcentric lineup. It’s just not going to pull me out there, unfortunately, unless someone hands me a free ticket.

By Brandon Kittler on February 4th, 2010

They are really picking things up on the electronic end. I can’t wait to see where it’s at in a few years.

By The Truth on February 4th, 2010

I’ve tried (really tried, even) to get into the jamtronica stuff. I can’t do it.

I agree that, like Brandon Kittler said, Wakarusa is taking a turn toward the electronic. Unfortunately, I’m nearing my threshold for it.

If they replace many more of the rock-type headliners with jamtronic acts (Sound Tribe’s late night set bored me to tears last year), I’m afraid I may have to stop going, as it wouldn’t be worth it to me any longer.

Perhaps they’re trying to shift some of the rock and bluegrass stuff I enjoy to the Mulberry Mountain Harvest Festival, which is fine.

I can’t do much to stop it, and if that’s what the people truly want, I don’t blame Wakarusa one bit for bringing more electronica.

It just will no longer be a festival for me.

*sigh*

Or maybe I should just take more drugs.

Has anyone else heard that there is no more Harvest Fest? :( Please please please say it’s not true…

By The Truth on February 4th, 2010

@skalmt I’ve heard that rumor as well, BUT… I’ve had some very qualified folks tell me it’s coming back, likely in October this time, though.

By Zaff on February 4th, 2010

Well done waka. You wont be able to please all but I think this is a well rounded line up.

By chancevb on February 4th, 2010

Yes! Time to start googling and youtubing the bands I’ve never heard of. Thanks Waka.

By Dgold on February 8th, 2010

Amazing line-up. Wide variety of rock and roots music in addition to the electronica and jam. Check out the deep roster.

I will be spinning songs by bands from the Wakarusa Festival roster every Tuesday on KXUA Honest Tunes radio from January to June — and will still be digging into new bands from this list week after week, at that.

I made a list of all the bands for the 2010 Wakarusa Lineup (Rd. 1) with included youtube links. I made sure each link work as of 2-8-10, and that the video is at least decent quality audio/video. Hope you enjoy.

I copied the list of artists that are scheduled to play at the 2010 Wakarusa Music Festival and attached a youtube link featuring that artist at: http://www.chancechapman.com

All links are active with quality audio and video as of February 8th, 2010. Go see live music, and I hope you enjoy discovering the new bands.

Gotta agree with Kittler and the Truth about the jamtronica. It is incredibly boring. How can it be exciting to watch somebody push a few buttons on a laptop? I too saw the STS9 late night set and was bored to tears. It also makes me feel like the crowd is full of some real chumps when I see all of the heads who lap that **** up. It’s a depressing turn in the evolution of music.
