President of Panama visits Fayetteville

According to the University of Arkansas Newswire, the President of the Republic of Panama, Ricardo Martinelli Berrocal spent some time in Fayetteville this weekend.

While he was in town, the University of Arkansas honored Martinelli with the establishment of the Ricardo A. Martinelli Berrocal Scholarship to provide financial assistance with preference given to students from the Republic of Panama.

Martinelli was presented with the keys to the city by Fayetteville Mayor Lioneld Jordan, and the Panamanian president also threw out the first pitch at Baum Stadium during the Razorback Baseball game versus Ball State on Saturday.

Berrocal received his bachelor of science in business administration degree from the University of Arkansas in 1973. He assumed the office of president of the Republic of Panama in July 2009 after winning the spring election by the largest margin in Panama history, earning 60 percent of the votes.
